Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house
i would never ask people to take their shoes off. we once went to a housewarming where they had white carpets. we had to take the shoes off. dh stayed in the area of the house where there was no carpeting so he wouldn't have to take his shoes off

When friends stop by do you prefer they take their shoes off before coming in your house.
Prefer? Yes. Ask them to? Never.

With that said...you can always tell what I think of a person & their house. If I take my shoes off at your house, you know I think it's clean & you're clean. If I don't...well...

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house
We take our shoes off in our own house. Some people follow our example (my mom), but if they don't, we don't say anything. I'm just more comfortable not wearing them in my own house, and DC have to take them off because they are all over the couches, and their feet are often in each other's faces when they play.
I rarely take them off in other people's houses.

I never ask people to take their shoes off, but I wonder if I should now...
I have hardwood floors, and recently had a Pampered Chef party. One of my neighbors was wearing heels and must not have had the "lifts" on her shoes, and she left dents ALLLLLL over the floor!!!!!!! I'm so p***** about that!!!

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house
i don't in my own home and would never ask my guests to. i also don't ask at other's homes. however if asked, i would most definitely oblige. i am shocked that some replied that they wouldn't even if asked.

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house
I have brand new carpets through out my new house and they did cost alot. I do prefer people take their shoes off. We never walk in the house with shoes on and mostly everyone who visits takes their shoes off anyway. We do not ask, but we prefer. If it was really muddy or wet out and the didn't remove their shoes, I would probably ask.
I almost always remove my shoes when I visit someone's house.

oh no, not again
we did this recently and it got a bit heated
that being said, I would not ask anyone to take their shoes off, it is rude, IMHO

i am confused. are you saying that your DH refused to take of his shoes at a customer's house and therefore he canceled the service call?
if i am reading this correctly then i am sorry but IMO your DH is wrong. as an employee of customer service oriented company, the focus should be on pleasing the customer and adhering to their need/wants/requests.

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house
We never have to ask but I would if I had to. We have an 8 month old who is usually crawling on the floor. I vacuum every day as it is and I really don't want anyone tracking anything onto the rugs where he crawls.

I don't think i would ever go out of my way and make a big deal about it but once our house gets in order and done being under construction i would like it if people took their shoes off.

i was going to mention those things dh uses them as he carries heavy glass and mirror and would never take his shoes off cause he could hurt his feet if it fell on his feet

that is completely understandable and obviously a safety issue. however he is courteous enough to wear the "hospital slip-ons". for an employee to outwardly refuse this request from a customer (when safety is not an issue) is IMO rude.
again, maybe misreading the whole scenario but if not, my thoughts remain.

Us, too! DH refused and we never saw the house (it was in Albertson).

If I had Carpet, then I probably would. Or if I had a house, with like a Den or Family room, or Office with Carpet, than I would have a No Shoe Rule.

I should also add that anyone who enters a home with someone who has a crawling baby should automatically offer to take off their shoes...
