When changing diapers w/just pee....

Do you use wipes?

I never do, I didn't see the need, didn't want to be drying, etc. But my MIL does, and the more I think about it, we wipe (ladies Chat Icon ) when we pee, but that's more of a drying need than a 'cleansing need'.

What do you do?

I think this topic became heated once before Chat Icon

I don't use a wipe since there is nothing wet there.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I usually do after the morning diaper change because I feel like she's been laying in it all night. But otherwise I don't, for the same reasons you said. But my mom and MIL always make a comment...LOL.

I wipe DD, but I don't think there's anything wrong with not wiping! (and I agree, we as non-diaper-wearers wipe more for drying than cleansing purposes)

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I always use wipes after a pee pee diaper. I just figured that the pee would irritate the skin, No?

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I didn't, then started to when I got a few comments from other moms. I notice that he never got even a mild diaper rash before I started using wipes for every pee. also, DS got a rash that the doctor said looked like it might be a fungus and actually told me not to use wipes for a while for just wet diapers.

So now, I went back to not using them every time. First thing in the morning I do and if he seems REALLY wet, but otherwise I don't.

I always do, MIL does not.

I feel like if it were me, I would want to be clean, so I do it for her and him!

ETA: Don't most diapers "pull" the pee away in the layer that absorbs it? My DS has never been actually wet or damp or smelled like pee.

I always do. I just figure adults always wipe after pee, so I do it for him also.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I do - on a rare occasion that the diaper isn't really wet - and the wipes are out of reach - and he is squirming like a monkey - then I won't wipe. But, that may happen once a week.

I do but I use a wipe to cover my DS so I don't get sprayed and then use it to wipe him after

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I always use wipes on DS.

I never thought not to.

I guess the way I see it is that I do understand what you're saying...we wipe to dry. But we're not peeing in our pants like babies do in diapers. If I were to pee in my pants (haha) I would probably wipe/cleanse myself and surrounding areas.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I wipe her most of the time after pee. If she is squirmy and driving me nuts I don't. I always do in the morning or if it's a very full diaper.

Pee is sterile. I don't know how it would irritate the skin.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

MY doc said not to use wipes because it causes them to stay wet. She said only use in the morning like other moms do. She also advised me that letting him run around naked for 5 minutes during the diaper change would help prevent fungus. That is very common by the way
