Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

We end up using wipes, no matter what is in his diaper. Just a force of habit I guess.

I would give my daughter the same dignity I would give myself. I wipe myself therefore I will wipe her. Diapers only absorb so much. I think it is silly to think that the absorbency of a diaper will keep our children as dry as the Sahara.

I use wipes. I will ALWAYS use wipes. If someone doesn't like it, tough nuggies!

I never gave it a second thought. If he had sensitive skin I would go a different route, but it has all worked. He's happy and I'm happy.

I never throught not to. I feel like if i dont clean her, especially by the "hole", she could be at risk for a UTI. Maybe im just paranoid since ive been prone to them my whole life and dont want her to have to go thru what i have.

I think that is ironic because I do not wipe for pee diapers (except the 1st one in the am) and my dd has had MAYBE 3 diaper rashes Chat Icon Chat Icon

Me too. Besides the wipes can actually be irritants.

DD is 18 months and has never had diaper rash, uti, yeast infection, nothing, nada, zilch --

I think Aeriell was saying that because of the diaper rashes in the past, she no longer takes the risk of it happening again so she uses the wipes.

I posted previously that we use wipes most of the time. My DS has sensitive skin on the rest of his body but has never had diaper rash. The most he gets is a small amount of redness that is gone by the next diaper change. I won't even ask the question about who uses ointment.

Maybe we should all agree to move on from this debate or to just give people a chance to answer if they have not posted to this thread already.

For both dc i have always used a wipe and thankfully no rashes. There really probably is no right or wrong, whatever your comfortable with and works for your DC.

I ALWAYS use wipes and make sure she's wipe thoroughly. I could not imagine making pee and not wipe myself so therefore it's very important for me to use wipes on Ella when she pees.

Ella is almost 15 months and thank God she never gets any diaper rash.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

Just for the record, my daughter got a UTI when she was 12 months, and has since seen a pediatric urologist a few times since then. I asked him if I should be using wipes for pee, if it would have helped prevent the UTI (which in DD's case it wouldn't, she's got a genetic issue with her bladder)...he said in his experience & opinion, it was not necessary to use wipes for urine. Could I? Of course. But HE didn't believe it was necessary. Now of course, just as with all our pediatricians and any other doctor, every one likely has different opinions/views, so that's just what MY guy said.

ETA: Also, DD has had maybe 2 minor diaper rashes in her life.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

We (adults) use dry toilet paper to wipe ourselves. Well most of us I'm sure. That's not really "cleansing" it just drying Chat Icon

I always use wipes after a pee pee diaper. I just figured that the pee would irritate the skin, No?

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I personally found that using the wipes for even pee has made a difference in my boys. they had a lot of diaper rashes/yeast infections. (no my kids didnt sit in wet/dirty diapers) ironic or not that is my expierence. i do understand as adult we wipe to "dry" ourselves. but i think its a lil different when your sitting in a diaper that has "chemicals" in it. this might not be a problem for everyone but in my case, yeah i need to use the wipes on my boys even for pee. its purely preventative.

Wipes all the time...but partly because I got in the habit of covering Lucas when I change him to avoid getting soaked...so I use that but overall I would anyway.

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

The only time I don't use a wipe is if he wakes up in the middle of the night and I think there's a possibility of him going back to sleep. I'm to scared to put a freezing cold wipe on him to wake him up even more. Use a wipe ever other time...even if his diaper doesn't feel wet.

I must say this post is making me wonder if I should with every change. Rylan has very sensitive skin on his hiney...it's always so dry...maybe I should stop wiping his cheeks so often.

I use wipes every time.

As adults we don't sit in our pee. So it isn't all over us. I would use wipes if I could flush them. Chat Icon

Re: When changing diapers w/just pee....

I always use wipes (actually several) when changing my niece's diaper. You just have to make sure you wipe from front to back and my sister uses a good combination to prevent diaper rash. My niece has never (knock on wood) had any diaper rashes. She puts desitin into the vasoline jar and mixes it together.
