DH and I were in a very bad car accident yesterday *Update at bottom of first post*
We were stopped at a light with 4 cars in front of us and a car behind us. A box-truck apparently didn't see the light and just plowed into the BMW behind us - we hit the people in front of us and spun around, they hit the people in front of them etc. We actually sustained the most damage to our car (of course, right?  ) I don't even know where my car is right now! We were just out running some errands - we bought a ton of new lighting fixtures for the outside of our house. They were in the trunk and I'm assuming they're demolished. I don't even know where my back bumper ended up.
We are OK, just very bruised - we both have MAJOR bruises on our ribs, bellies and hips from the seatbelt. I also have random bruises and bumps in places that I don't remember hitting yesterday. DH had to be kept longer at the hospital for observation - his liver area was swollen, but he is OK. The sunglasses that DH were wearing flew off his head and landed on the ledge in back of the back seats. I don't even know what happened to my sunglasses.

Thank God we walked out of this relatively unharmed. Someone was watching over us, for sure.
As I was in the middle of typing this we just got a call from the place where my car is - THE &*($^#&($^#($) TRUCK DRIVER DIDN'T HAVE A LICENSE OR INSURANCE OR A REGISTRATION FOR HIS VEHICLE.  
OMG - is it too early to start drinking? Any volunteers to come over and bring us alcohol because we can't get up off the couch????

*** Monday evening ***
Wow - thank you everyone for your hugs and thoughts and prayers!
DH and I went to our regular doctor this morning around 10. After talking with him for a while, he wanted me to go for some additional testing on my neck, abdomen and pelvis, as they were still very sore and extremely tender to the touch. We went back to the ER at South Nassau and were just released about an hour ago. I had x-rays and a contrast CT scan. Thankfully everything came back normal. 
The ER doc said that my contusions were "impressive". I can't wear regular pants because I can't get them buttoned.  DH is basically in the same shape I am in - the two of us are quite a pair! As strange as it sounds, I am glad that we are going through this together. I couldn't bear the thought of him going through this type of pain alone.
We will be going to the auto body place where my car is tomorrow to try to get what we can out of it. I had a few jackets, some dry cleaning, all of my CD's, my ipod - all the usual stuff you would have in your car on any given day.
I'll continue to update as we start to sort through the insurance and everything.

I'd bring you alcohol but you would be waiting for quite ahile while I travled 3000 miles

Does anyone know how we proceed with this, being that there is no insurance on the guy that caused it all? I have a feeling that we are going to get screwed. Is anything going to happen to the driver of the truck????

your insurance will fix everything and your no-fault will take care of medical that is not covered by your health insurance I think.
You may have to sue this guy. He should be arrested.
So sorry you are hurting but I'm so glad that you are here. It could have been so much worse.

That is horrible...along with the no-insurance thing.
Your insurance will cover it, but now you may have to pay a deductible.
I'm so sorry this happened to you...it could have been worse, but it's pretty horrible as is.

OM goodness, thank god you 2 are ok.
Well i work for an insurance office, so i will try and help, since the guy who caused the accident doesnt have any insurance, you will need to call your insurance company and file a claim under your policy, Which is for "uninsured motorist". In NJ it DOES NOT affect your auto rates. You will have to pay your deductable to get your car fixed. Now if you want you can go to small claims court toget your deductable back from the driver. Did that driver recieve any tickets for not having insurance, if not most times you can contact the police dept and request that, they will then look over the case and submit him a ticket. ( which is usually a hefty fine)

thank God you are ok!
And your insurance will take care of everything, you don't really have to do anything. you might wind up paying your deductable since it will probably go through no-fault, so you might try and sue him to get that $$ back, and if you lose any time from work-lost wages.

OMG, I get tears in my eyes just looking at the pictures! Glad you are ok!!
Was this on Rt. 106 yesterday? There was a huge accident there yesterday that looked like a big chain reaction hit.
ETA: I just saw the Baldwin fire truck so I know it was not.

It was on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin - I knew we should have taken the Southern State!

Thanks everyone!
I'm just looking at the pictures again, and if you look at the first picture, you can see that the trunk of the BMW is non-existant. It was totally smashed in. It was a 7 series, which is a decent-sized car!
I'm still in shock that we are ok - not a drop of blood from either of us.
My next car will most likely be another VW - it saved our lives!

I am SO glad you are okay, I was so freaked out when you FM'd me pics of the car, you are all VERY lucky
rest up and if I did not live all the way in NC, I would totally bring you booze
