If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
what did you like about it?
Would you like you child/children to go there?

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
Bayport, and yes my DS will be going there as the house we are buying is in that school district. I liked it. I hated it too. I hated the fact that the teachers lived in the area. A LOT of them I would run into in the supermarket or out. But it was a good school. We were on Austerity for my entire HS career. So, that put a damper on somethings, but overall it was good. We had our issues just like other schools.

Ward Melville...3 village
I liked it
my kids wont go there b/c I would not move back to Suffolk/Setauket
but it has nothing to do with the school why I wouldn't want to live there

Seaford
i loved high school, a few years ago i would be on the fence about sending my children to the high school anyway, but it's making it's way back up. the elementary schools are still very good though. unfortunately because there isn't a lot of business in the town, taxes and houses are high priced, but i'd raise a family there if i could!

I went to an all girls Catholic HS. Obviously my son won't go there, but I am not 100% sure I'd send my DD their either. I had a great HS experience, and I know it's a good school, but we've got a long way to go, so we'll see.

I'd love to send my son there, but I don't think we can move that far north with DH's commute

Same here and my children will be in this HS as well. So happy we were able to move back to the area. We lived in Nesconset and Lake Grove before moving back and I would have no problem sending them to that districts as well (you hear pretty good things). I know that Lake Grove we were in the Sachem district. I *think* Nesconset was Sachem or maybe Connetquot?

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to Smithtown High School when they were collaborated. I loved the arts programs and the fact that they offered a ton of AP and honors courses. I did not love the drug problems, the violence and the huge classes. I would never send my child to either Smithtown high schools.

I went to all Lynbrook schools on the south side.. I specifically bought my house in this district so my DD can go to the same schools.. I have to say we are a great district.. I have wonderful memories growing up.. I live 12 blocks from my mother and i have noticed that most of the people I grew up with didnt leave either!!

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to a coed catholic HS on LI although I lived in Queens.
I had a nice HS experience.
It would honestly depend on what type of student my child is.
Academically the school was not challenging enough for me and in college I paid catch up bc of it.
But it was a nice community.
ETA: I went to public school K-8; having had both experiences I prefer a public school K-12 education for my children.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to Kings Park...
I loved it and would move back there if we could afford the taxes! It was a small town with only 220 kids in my graduating class. Everyone knew everyone and I thought it was great.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to Commack, and I don't know if I'd want my kids to go there. 1 - it was extremely competitive. parents were INSANE, and that leaked over onto the kids. 2 - no diversity. I feel this is important. 3 - there were a lot of "rich" kids and there was a lot of pressure to keep up with the Joneses.
Overall, I enjoyed HS, and I certainly do not think its a bad place to live or go to school, but those three things always stand out to me.

Floral Park Memorial - great school, could walk around everywhere and feel safe
Don't want to live there b/c my parents and DH's parents and almost all of his relatives live there(they are not the most welcoming people to put it nicely). Besides that, my DH and I want to find a town that suits us - we like the water so I think a beachy town might be more suited to us

i went to the same school and i would rather not send my children to private if i can move to a decent school district.
my husband also went to private school that was all boys and he agrees that we would like to not send our future children to private school.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
Wantagh HS.
DH and I both liked that it was small. We also were able to take AP classes as well as college level classes for credit through Syracuse and CW Post for a huge discount. I graduated high school with 15 credits which transferred to Hofstra, so I started college with one semester already completed.
We live in the house DH grew up in and our dd will be starting kindergarten at the same elementary school DH did exactly 30 years before.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to West Babylon High School and wish I could raise my kids in that school district, but I'm stuck in one town because of DHs fire house. I feel that I received a great education from elementary through high school. The teachers were passionate and always went the extra mile to help us reach our potential.

I went to Herricks High School. It was and is still rated very highly. If I could afford to live and pay the taxes in that district, I would in a heartbeat.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
Sachem - No I won't send DS there. It's not the same as it was when I went there and that's why we bought in Sayville.
I had a great experience in the Sachem SD but I just think things have changed, and as an educator I want a smaller school district for my son and I feel like there is more opportunity for him in Sayville.
