Centereach HS. I liked it there. Had some very good teachers and the kids in general were nice.
Ditto...I would send my kids there.
I also went to Centereach...and NO I would not send my kids there. My parents neighbors have told me horror stories about Herion in the schools. It was starting getting pretty noticbile my senoir year, with constant locker raids, diguised as fire drills. I remember one girl having a bad trip in the girls bathroom, and it was treated like everyday activity. 5 yrs later when my sister was a senior, there was a fight in the cafe, and one of the lunch attendents stepped in to stop the fight, only to have her Gun fall out onto the floor...she was an undercover cop. I think that in the 15 years since I have graduated that things have gotten worse not better.
Unfortunately, thats not just Centereach...it's everywhere.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
I went to Locust Valley… I would love for my kids to go there but at the same time I always hated how it seemed “so far” from everything and was kind of isolated. But in a few years when all of our friends have families and we don’t hang out as much, I would def look in to moving back up there.

I went to a coed catholic HS on LI although I lived in Queens.
I had a nice HS experience.
It would honestly depend on what type of student my child is.
Academically the school was not challenging enough for me and in college I paid catch up bc of it.
But it was a nice community.
ETA: I went to public school K-8; having had both experiences I prefer a public school K-12 education for my children.
Ditto on everything! I lived in LI though. I agree with the school not being challenging enough academically.
However - I would LOVE to send my son (if I have one and if I have the money) to Chaminade.

I went to Bellmore JFK. I thought it was a good school but extremely competitive and very materialistic. That said, I think it had a really good academic program and if i still lived there, would send my kids school there.

I think a child's education has more to do with the parents and the child than with the school district.
So true! I went to Elmont Memorial. And no I wouldn't send my kids there now.

I went to Smithtown High School when they were collaborated. I loved the arts programs and the fact that they offered a ton of AP and honors courses. I did not love the drug problems, the violence and the huge classes. I would never send my child to either Smithtown high schools.
I agree all the way..I went there too and the drug issue is INSANE over there right now.. it was just starting up when I graduated
What year did you graduate?

I went to Friends Academy - and although I received an excellent education I will not be sending my girls there for multiple reasons.
We are in currently in contract on a home and moving back to my hometown. It is an excellent school district and I would like the girls to go there.

possibly a douche in disguise... despite his douchey-ness my bro DOES have his PhD. So Chaminade does create smart douches.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
Sachem, I liked it there. Our home right now is in the Middle Country SD. Eventually, I would like to move back to Sachem, but we shall see what happens. There are advantages to smaller SD, so we will most likely stay where we are at least until elementary school.

I graduated in 1997, and the drug problem was totally an issue then, as well. I remember police raids and like dozens, and I mean dozens, of kids lined up outside the building in hand-cuffs. It was insane and it used to anger me to no end because Smithtown covered it up so much. Kind of like now, how they're just "training" drug sniffing dogs in their high schools

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and
Another Harborfields alumni.
I loved it. Small class sizes, tons of offerings for advanced students and for those struggling academically.
The only issue I can come up with is I'm not sure most of my class (myself included) had a very real perception of money. I didn't realize how far off I was until I went to college & found out my boyfriend's parents couldn't afford to send his brother to school.
I would send my children there in a heartbeat.

The things I didn't like was that we (like most schools), had a pretty defined clique system that was in place from about the 5th grade on. It was both a blessing and a curse to be with the same kids from Kindergarten through to the 12th grade, but it was what it was, and really, we didn't know any differently. It's only now in hindsight and with further mixing with others from other districts in NY and other places, that I realize how different our existence was.
I never thought about this - now they are K-12 together. When I was in elementary school there were three elem schools and you went to the one to which you were closest - I loved when we got to Oldfield there were so many people I didn't know!
but on the other hand, it's good to keep all grades together for resources.
