Sachem

My children will not be attending school there...we purchased a home in Nassau and I really like the school district we are in.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

Harborfields. I got a great education there and there were many teachers who were remarkable. Sometimes I wish I went to a bigger school, though. I went on to a big university and I loved it. My husband went to Kings Park, which is smaller than Harborfields, and he loved it. Now we live in a pretty big district.

I went to West Hempstead High School back in 94. I wouldn't send my kids to that school now. We moved out of there almost 4 years ago.

I went to JFK in Bellmore. Would I send my kids there. No, No, and No. I was okay there because my humour got me through, and I had some nice friends, but bigger picture, thats not the kind of thing I would want my own kids to go through.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

I went to Bay Shore.

I liked it a lot. Bay Shore was one of the first districts to have learning disabled children be mainstreamed and they also had a very robust AP course of programs. The school was racially and ethically diverse - and the student body was large enough to find a group that you really clicked with.. but there wasn't that 'division' among classes and cliques that you see in movies about high school. Jocks, cheerleaders, burnouts, punks.. whatever.. everyone kind of just hung out together. I never really saw a lot of bullying or cruelty come from any group... probably because of the diversity.

We also had great arts programs, wonderful athletic programs and a lot of legacy families that were invested in being a part of keeping the school at the top of it's game.

I would have no problem with my children going to BSHS - my nephew went there and several of my friend's children are in the district. But we don't live in that town. So my boys will likely go to Sayville HS. Which will hopefully give them as good of an experience as I had.

Great Neck South - I didn't have such a good experience there, but the education was phenomenal - really phenomenal. I absolutely do want Alex to go to a school with such an incredible program, but without all the materialism and elitism.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

John Glenn in Elwood. Very small school. My grad class had 143 people. I would have no problem sending my kids there but DH is from West Islip and I think that's where we're going to stay. Ontop of academics, I want a school with a stand-out sports program.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

I went to Smithtown HS. I loved all the choices I had, and made some great friends.

I'll never move back to LI though, so my kids won't be going there.

If I did, I don't know if I'd send my kids there now. I keep hearing not so great things.

Centereach HS. I liked it there. Had some very good teachers and the kids in general were nice.

If we have a kid he/she wouldn't be going there because DH and I live in the city. I would send my kids there though if we lived on LI.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

Comsewogue. I used to think it was eh, but then we moved to Florida where the schools really are bad.

If we move back to NY I would probably want Three Village or Miller Place. I wouldn't have a real objection with Comsewogue though.

Re: If you are from Long Island, what High School did you attend, and

Bayport.

I liked that is was small and the teachers were good. Everyone knows everyone, and to this day I run into teachers when I visit my parents.

I didn't like that it was so small sometimes. Because people are nosy.

I moved to another district. But I would definately let my kids go to Bayport.

I went to an all girls Catholic HS. Obviously my son won't go there, but I am not 100% sure I'd send my DD their either. I had a great HS experience, and I know it's a good school, but we've got a long way to go, so we'll see.

i went to the same school and i would rather not send my children to private if i can move to a decent school district.

my husband also went to private school that was all boys and he agrees that we would like to not send our future children to private school.

Just wanted to say that my kids have already followed in my footsteps - they are going to Catholic schools (DS is in K in the local Catholic school), so I am all for the parochial/private route because that is how I was raised, and I will more than likely send my kids to a private/parochial HS as well, but I'm just not sure my DD will go to the same HS I did. There are others around us that are just as good.

My husband and I both went to Massapequa k-12th. All my kids are attending same school. My dd may attend Kellenberg in fall. Love the district.

We are both graduates of Levittown SD. I would send my children there. We aren't in Levittown anymore, but when we are ready to buy, we will definately consider it.

what did you like about it?
-the fact that it was a big school: clique for everybody
-no shortage of programs and classes

Would you like you child/children to go there?
I don't know what the school is like now since I graduated over 15 years ago.

Currently we're in the Harborfields SD (we moved here for the school district's reputation), but I do worry that the school may be on the small side. Don't know if my DC will be going there, as we're considering moving out of state.

harborfields - I had a great time

it looks like my kids will also be going to harborfields. we are in the district now, but selling - we are 90% sure that we will stay within the district. I just keep hearing such bad things about other districts (we have off duty SCPD that work in my school and they tell me all of the issues with SDs surrounding harborfields)

I went to Kings Park HS, and I loved it! We only had like 250 people in my graduating class and everyone knew everyone else!

I would love to send my children there (and will do so illegally if I can!) Someday DH and I are planning on moving back there but it's not in the cards right now!

Comsewogue and would not move back there or have my kids one day go there.

I can't speak about the school today, I have no information except for the test scores which I have seen decline in a great way over the years which is sad.

I did not enjoy being a student in the school, nor did I think I had a great education with lots of opportunity.

I would love to live in Npt and send my children to school there but it's just too far from the city, where we both work. Great district and the HS has some amazing programs.

I went to West Babylon High School and wish I could raise my kids in that school district, but I'm stuck in one town because of DHs fire house. I feel that I received a great education from elementary through high school. The teachers were passionate and always went the extra mile to help us reach our potential.

I am not from LI but we live in WB now. DS in the HS, DD in JHS and DS in Elem. We think it's great, but I'm glad to hear that others do as well.

i completely and totally agree with this. i loved my education at bay shore and i would send my dd there in a heartbeat, but we're living in brooklyn right now so the likelyhood of that happening is small. however, bay shore would be my number one choice (and it kills me that it has such a bad reputation...).
