Would you quit your job and become SAHM?...
If you don't have to pay for a roof over your head (This could be because your home is fully paid for or you're living rent-free.) and your DH makes enough money to cover for all expenses and some retirement savings?

I think there are a lot of things to consider. Who has better insurance? Would you have enough in savings? Would you want to spend 24/7 with your child? That last question is a horrible one to ask, but it is the truth.

i agree with most of the above. if it weren't for insurance & money reasons, i would stay home in a HEARTBEAT!!!!!!!!!!!

Dunno really...I love working, and I love being at home, but the idea of not having my own money scares the crap out of me, for me it would be a bit like losing control of my own life. Thats just for me though.

I sort of agree with this... I have seen it happen to too many people where they become SAHM's, start having serious marriage problems (or death of a spouse) and are STUCK bc they have no income / way to support themselves! While I love DS and DH I am not naive to think that it couldn't happen to me, and it scares me enough to keep working every day.

That would be a "hell no" from me. I worked too hard for my degree and have too much student loan debt to stay home.
Plus- I am a crappy SAHM. These 10 days home for snow days proved that to me (as does summer break and the Christmas holiday).
I have the best of both worlds though. I work 3.5 days a week and on the days I'm working my husband is usually home with them. Otherwise they are at the babysitter one day a week. I work 3 minutes from my house.
Why would I quit?

No. I have awesome health insurance and make more than DH. I also have a pension and enough days off in the year that I would be stupid to do so!

No. I wouldn't
I was laid off last June and been home since (DS was just over 2) and I can honestly say I miss working. I miss having some place else to go, I miss having adult interaction, I miss going to the bathroom ALONE.
I am looking for jobs, but my field is a little barren right now. Plus we couldn't afford if I wasn't on unemployment (which I am now)

I did while pregnant.
Never looked back.
Babysat on the side for 2 years...helped me make fulltime sahm transisition. Was unsure how to be a productive family member without an income. Fine with it now
I am starting to take classes again though, I don't really want to work, but I have my nights free...I want a medical certification...like resp therapist. Something as backup since my old career was so time consuming...
I sort of feel too that we live within our one income means, we are sort of on the same playing field from what I see from most of our 2 income peers. Most have nicer cars, bigger homes...we kind of feel like I am a possible relief pitcher, not used yet, but can be if needed. Our resources aren't tapped out.
but kelly's last question is so true...24/7

I would work part-time/per diem, maybe 1-2 days a week. I worked too hard for my career to give it up completely and fear that if I don't work I will lose my skills.

I would and I just did!! LOL I worked in corporate america for 9 years as a manager. We wanted to make it work, so I quit and am helping DH with his photography business.

I totally thought I wanted to but realized then I would never appreciate the time I spend with DD.
I am a teacher so I have off vacations, weekends, holidays, summers..so I do get a lot of time with her and the next baby in Sept. I will be off from June to Feb 1st so i guess I will see but I really LOVE teaching and my students so I don't think I would want to give up my career that I worked so hard to get or my students whom I LOVE more every year. tough but for me, nope don't wanna be a SAHM

I did.
I owned a clothing store for over 9 years and gave it up right before I was due to have DD.
Thankfully DH has a great job that we can afford to live on one salary, but it is VERY tight. We don't have that extra play $$$ coming in from the store so it's been a HUGE change.
There was a time when money wasn't really an issue...but now...it's a BIG issue.

I did and went back to work p/t when DS #1 was about 11 months or so. Since than I have been working 2 days a week (sometimes 3) and think I have a pretty good arrangement. I get out of the house a couple days a week and get me time but also am able to do alot with my kids and spend more time with them than I would if I were working f/t.

I quit my job as a teacher in NYC to be home with my DD when she was born and although it's much harder financially right now on us I wouldn't change a single thing. It was the BEST decision I have ever made and the past 17 months have been the BEST of my life!

I think I would loose my mind! I love my children with all of my heart! Shoot, they cost over 30,000 to have!
But seriously, I cant take the toddler scream and the crying when they don't get what they want! I cringe at vacations especially when it is cold like this! My kids need to get out and run and this cold makes it nearly impossible. I hate that the city doesn't have more affordable indoor play spaces.

I quit my f/t job and have no regrets! I did find a p/t consulting job a few months later (2 days per week) and it is the best of both worlds!
