Why I am against the Healthcare Bill...
As others who are against the Health Care Bill have stated before, I am not against reform, but against the way it was handled.
The amount of corruption, backroom deals, and lack of transparency are what bothers me the most. Whether you agree or not, most Americans are against this Bill. And most Americans will not let a corrupt machine dictate their future.
I remember back to when these forums were full of posts discussing the upcoming 2008 elections. I was very vocal in my opinion as to why i felt that Obama was a poor choice to lead this country. It was mainly do to his shady past and those he surrounded himself with. And Obama continues today appointing people who share his belief in radically transforming America.
I believe that something Tom Harkin (Dem from the state of Iowa} said prior to the bill passing is important to look at. He said look at this Bill as a starter home in which in the future we can make additions and enhancements to. I have no doubt that in the next few years Private Insurers will be out of business, and every American will fall into the Single Payer plan. Even Vice President Biden said the government now owns the insurance company.
Sorry if im skeptical to believe that the Government will be able to provide me with better healthcare then the Private Sector. I look at this like the DMV on steroids. To believe that health costs will go down, and that your healthcare will improve under this plan is a bit naive in my opinion.
With the state of our economy the way it is, i would argue that getting people back to work should have been priority #1, not Healthcare. The more people back to work would have increased the amount of people who wouldn't need the Government Plan.
Although i agree that Healthcare Reform is important, and that there are people in dire need of help, to shove this Bill through, without the American People and even some elected officials reading all of it, is a huge failure on the part of this Administration. Obama PROMISED that the American People would be able to watch the dealings of this bill on C-Span, however we all know that wasnt true.
Healthcare is a very serious issue and should have been treated as such. The process should have been slowed down and handled with the utmost care. Instead our President and Congress felt it was best at this time to shove this Bill down our throats, without the consent of the majority of Americans.
When the Government gets to big and starts telling you how to live your lives is when i have a problem. Remember this country was founded because people didnt want to live under Government Rule and wanted to pursue Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness. We dont want the Government to dominate every aspect of our private lives do we?
Now although this Bill isnt going to radically transform our country today.
Just look at it as a STARTER HOME
Please remember this is only my opinion. If this Bill sounds good to you, then congrats on your victory.
My prediction for this Administration next will be Amnesty for illegals. Dems are going to need the votes.

Re: Why I am against the Healthcare Bill...
what was ignored by the current administration
if the government really wanted to know what people wanted, they would have had an open conversation with all americans, not just the ones that shared their like-opinions.
our current healthcare system needed to be tweaked, not destroyed!!
we needed increase competition and allow people to find the best healthcare, even if it were over state lines!
medicare is almost bankcrupt and now many doctors and pharmacies won't accept it anymore, take walgreens for example...
social security and other gov't run agencies are being run into the ground.
we need the private sector. keep the gov't out of our private lives!

I would like to have seen:
Tort reform, the ability to purchase insurance across state lines and for non employer provided plans, people should be been given a tax deduction for their premium costs (to mirror the employer provided "pre tax deduction" for payroll contributions for health coverage).

I am for some sort of healthcare reform - but I do not agree with the bill that was passed.
My idea, would have been multifaceted (1) create strict legistaltion for the regulation of insurance companies (i.e. premiums, pre-existing conditions, etc.) (2) Major Tort reform, and (3) Provide a credit based on income that HAS to be used to purchase health insurance (which is now regulated by said legistaltion in part (1)).
I think this system would gurantee that all have insurance without putting the government into the business of managing healthcare or making healthcare decisions on behalf of the patient.

tort reform yes.
ability to cross state lines...NO THANK YOU. that is a recipe for disaster.
but TORT REFORM is something that should be on everyone's lips...no matter the political affiliation.
I also do not like the way certain politicing is done. but that is not necessarily a reflection of Obama as it is of the HOUSE and SENATE we elect. Democrat, Republican, Independent...what have you...they ALL do shady backroom dealing to swing people to their POV.
and again, it should be reiterated that there IS NO single payer plan. and to NOT act on something b/c you are afraid down the line something else could happen is foolhardy to me.
competition HAS BEEN opened up between the insurers already in this state by allowing smaller businesses/individuals to buy in. that SHOULD lower premiums for all of us, but most likely, the companies will keep premiums or raise them for profit.

very well put Tommy2. Thank you. I really hope we can get this bill repealed/deemed unconstitutional and start over with real reform and not the stepping stone to a single payer system.

they all do make backroom, but I think the difference here was that this was a major change to our health care system and more than 1/2 of Americans were against this particular bill (not reform, the bill) And to have the kind of blackmailing, backroom arm twisting done is really upsetting. Especially, coming from a President who ran on hope, change and transparency. If I voted for Obama I would be mighty upset at how he has gone back a lot of his campaign promises. I think America is tired of the corruption in Washington and waking up to the problems we are facing as a nation and to have these kind of deals on such a major, decisive issue in America is

Not saying everyone does or should at all. But to hear someone say "Obama's shady past" (to me at least) smacks of the poster subscribing to all that fear mongering that gets spewed from the likes of Glenn Beck. Which makes me not take anything else the poster said seriously

Walgreens will stop accepting medicaid..not medicare.
Compeititon has always been open..unfortunately if you are a small business or individual the policies are expensive and not comprehensive. Competition my butt..it's all about the insurance companies filling their wallets and there is nothing that will stop them except perhaps a mandate.
Our current healthcare system needs much more than tweaking. MUCH MORE.

From the likes of Glenn Beck makes me Please Obama does have ties to a lot of radical thinkers. They are in the White House with him. You can't deny that. From Wright, to Van Jones to Anita Hill they are all very left wing radicals (IMO).

I agree. Here was a perfect opportunity to educate your point to those who ARE Obama supporters but are unsure of this bill.
Why would you write this out for those who are like-minded? Who cares then? Wasn't the point to sway people to your *side*?

Re: Why I am against the Healthcare Bill...
this whole "stepping stone to single payer" is unfortunately, fear mongering from the same people who label Obama a "socialist"
I am starting to think we as a people, as a nation, would have been better off to have entered into another depression. we were on the verge...and are still in dire straights...but I wonder what kind of tune some people would be singing if the **** had REALLY and truly hit the fan in their town.
I wonder what tune people would be singing if we relieved the 10 years after 1929. if people can comprehend what a frightening, devastating time that was.
these are facts. these are recounting what HAS happened.
railing against a legislation b/c of whyat some fear mongers say *could possibly* happen is so weird to me.
I do think it happened to fast, but like I've been saying, there is a far better direction for all of this ire.

Why do you say that? I recently went out of state for surgery because the specialist who was best able to treat my condition was located in Georgia. While I'm sure being from out of state may have created more paperwork, I'd hardly call it a recipe for disaster.
