Daycare & Preschool moms: PSA about leaving your pocketbook in the car
Don't.
And if you do, lock your car. Because I'm a dumbasss and didn't.
Why would I? He has been there for over 2 years. The parking lot is ONLY for parents and staff of Cai's daycare.
Who would steal a pocketbook from the front seat of a mom's car?
At 37 years old, raised in Manhattan, lived in Brooklyn, I thought I wasn't so dumb!
But I am.
I put Cai in the car, walked to my side, and drove away. As I drove, instinctively I reached for my pocketbook.
Nothing.
I thhought I left it at work, but that doesn't make sense. I had my phone and my keys....
I thought maybe I brought it into the daycare. I never do that.
I went back to the daycare, but I already knew it was swiped.
Not to mention it was my LV I wanted for years. AND the wallet.
My Ipod was in there - which has all my music. I teach Zumba. Gone.
My Ipad, which I got for my bday, that I used for work. Gone. All my books, appointments, journal articles. Gone.
But, out of everything:
3 jump drives. With ten years of work. Every behavior plan, all my data, research articles, powerpoint trainings, work that I stayed up all night finding, developing, things from the internet that I can not find again. GONE.
Yes, we can all play the "Liza, WHY did you leave that in the car?" game. I never leave that stuff in the car. Ever.
Unless I was picking Cailen up from a daycare. A place I trusted. I was wrong.
And I paid for it. Dearly.
While writing this, the daycare called to call me that they came back this morning, and hit up someone else's car. Luckily someone saw, got a description of the men and the car. I will keep you guys posted.
In the meantime, learn from my mistake, please.

 ugh thats soo messed up!! Im sorry this happen. I worked at a daycare (in a very nice area) and i cant even tell you how many times this has happen to the parents at pick up and drop off. I guess it must be a easy target but i would think its hard since there are people coming and going all the time at those hours. I Hope they find them & you get ur stuff back! keep us posted!

I'm sorry that happened! Thank you for posting. I almost always leave my bag in the car when I do daycare drop off/pick up and I don't always lock it.

I'm so sorry this happened. I too learned the hard way. When I was younger, I had to drop mail off at the post office after work. It was a 30 second task, which I come to find out is all it takes for someone to hop in and take my car (which I left unlocked and with the keys in the ignition)
It is possible that if you put up flyers, that someone might return some of the stuff that is "useless" to them.

oh no I'm so sorry Liza!!! I can't imagine losing all those important things!! i leave my bad when i get Ian, but i do lock the door. maybe i should start bringing it in.
the last 2 times i went, i saw a mother leave her pre-schooler in the back sleeping with the car running and unlocked to go get her other child. it kills me to think what if.
i hope they find the guy and he still has your stuff!

I'm so sorry this happened to you.
When I was in college someone stole my portable car CD player out of my car.... which was unlocked in my parent's driveway in a VERY suburban residential neighborhood. I left my car unlocked at their house all the time because I assumed it was a safe place.
After that moment I started locking my car EVERYWHERE. I'm even talking about running out of my car to drop something in the mailbox, I will lock it.
It's a hard lesson to learn and I hope you can rebuild quickly.
It just sucks that there are people out there who will take advantage of distracted, frazzled parents.

OMG. I am so sorry. That is awful. Coulda, shoulda, woulda, can't.
Thank you for sharing your mistake with us so we can all learn from your unfortunate situation. That is just awful. 
I would be eyeing down every parent that passes me in that daycare from now on.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I have to admit I've done the same...left my pocketbook in the car for a quick minute.

Liza I am so sorry!
one thing though, check nearby for your books and anything that the theives wouldn't want.
once our car was broken into and they stole dh's computer bag out of the back that had work files in it. for some reason (maybe I learned from a past cop BF  or maybe at school, or maybe law and order  ) I remembered that thieves will usually dump anything they don't find valuable close to where they swipe the item, and sure enough, they had thrown the computer bag in a lot about 50 feet from where the car was, and all of the files were inside.

OMG - that is really awful! I ALWAYS leave my purse in te car bc I have too much crap to carry in but I always lock the car. I know you what you lost was more than monetary, but your insurance may be able to reimburse you for the LV and iPod and stuff.

I didn't see that you posted that the daycare got a description of the men. That is awesome, hope they catch them and get your stuff back.
What fools to COME BACK the next day? Hope they just incriminated themselves.

Ugh... That stinks! I am so sorry for you and there is no "you shouldn't have..." from me... I totally would have done the same!

I'm soo sorry that happened to you. I leave my purse when we drop off DS all the time in the car. I do it becasue he's in an in-home and I don't think anyone will take anything...but it could happen anywhere. I'm glad someone got a decripition of the d-bags that did this.
