I AM SO DONE!!!!!!!!!! I cannot look at one more disgusting house on LI
that costs $400K and needs 10's of thousands just to make it livable!!!!!

I have been there...we ended up waiting an extra year to buy a house so we could buy one that cost more, but needed less work. Hang in there!

I totally feel for you. It is so horrible that long island has become so overpriced. I feel like I might be overpaying for my home, but I caved after tons of searching. I bet if you hang in there, it will come along. Maybe take a break for a while.

Sometimes looking at a house a little more can make a small difference on appearance and you can still make an offer that they might accept.

there was a new house in elwood schools (in huntington) today - i drove by during work (took a long way after seeing a customer hee hee)
and all i have to say is .25 acres my BEHIND.
more like .025. and it says it has a 2 car detached garage...yep wasnt there either...

I'm sorry - I know all too well how frustrating, disappointing and aggrivating house hunting can be.
Maybe you need to switch it up a little - look in different areas, switch REAs, just do the OH circuit...

are you looking all in the same area, or have you been looking at different areas?
It really is frustrating when you compare to other markets- but i think you have to be careful not to do that.
Like they always say on house hunters, look for the "good bones"

we've looked in a number of different areas. good bones... yea, it's kind of hard to look for that under the pile of crap that some of these people call a house.

are you looking for something move-in ready or something that you can improve on thru rennovations?
I ask this because one thing that i might suggest (although I am sure many would disagree) is to find homes with similar layouts in the same area that have already been rennovated, even if they are out of your price range, and go take a look at them. Sometimes it's hard to picture a house with a nice kitchen and improved layout, new bathrooms etc. If you can actually see what it WILL look like, it might make it less depressing and it might help you see the potential that a house can have. I can even send you pictures of our home rennovations so far - and we havent done much but it looks like a totally different house. It's even amazing what a coat of paint and new carpet will do for a room. Hope that helps - I know you are frustrated and at your wits end. Unfortunately sometimes buying a home on LI requires a little more creativity and imagination than all the brand new homes that people can afford elsewhere.....
