I candled again today, couldn't get any good pics for some reason. I'm a little worried because I don't see much movement inside. I thought I saw one little kick, but the color of the shell is so dark, its hard to tell.
She's only got one week left 
I'm really hoping that baby is alive in there!
I've got questions in with my "chicken people" trying to figure out for sure if the baby is alive.
I'll post more info when I get it!

Tomorrow(Sunday) will be Sunny's 18th day with her egg. She is more determined than ever now & will only stay off the nest for a minute or two. She's really skinny, but her eyes are bright & she appears to be in good health, she just hasn't been eating much.
I candled the egg again today with DSD & we are POSITIVE we saw the baby moving around & kicking in there. I so wish I could get good pictures for you guys, its amazing. I'm thinking the chick will start to pip(that's when they make the intial break through the egg) sometime between Wednesday evening & Thursday Morning, then it will take a few hours for the Zip(when the chick cuts her way out of the shell like a zipper) & hopefully by Thursday afternoon the baby will be hatched & healthy & Sunny will be caring for her.
I will move Sunny & the baby into the greenhouse (its shady in there now because the leaves are on the trees) on Thursday & that will be the nursery.
I will try to candle & get good pics again tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone that has been following Sunny's story & cheering her on!

Oh and another update, I'm trying to locate a local chicken keeper that has a day old chick I can buy to keep the new baby & Sunny company....so far no luck.
And remember we need GIRL BABY VIBES!!!!

I don't know why my pictures of the egg are so hard to get now but hopefully you'll be able to see what I mean
This pic is from the candling a little shy of two weeks, see how the lighter space is small?
This is from Saturday, the lighter side is bigger & the dark side is even darker. At times we can see a little foot or head bump into the light side but I couldn't get a pic of it
And this is a picture of an egg that was laid Saturday morning by one of my other girls, infertile.
I also found a woman on craigslist in St James(probably Tricia's neighbor  ) that has babies hatching today & tomorrow, so I'm going to go get one Wednesday morning.
I'll sneak an infertile egg under her with the golden egg tuesday night, hopefully the chick will make her appearance sometime before Thursday. During the night on wed I'll slip the new chick & a broken egg shell under her.
Chickens go into almost a hypnotic state when they sleep, so when she wakes up she'll think her second egg hatched. Since chickens can't count she won't remember she's only had one egg now.
Oh & I've got to get the nursery ready...I was dreaming about it all night last night.
I will be back with pictures of everything else as it happens

This is sooooo cool! I look forward to checking for updates.
There are two families I know of in St. James who have chickens - one at 211 Lincoln off of Woodlawn and another one in the numbered streets - I think 5th Avenue?
If you do come around to my neck of the woods, send me an FM if you have time to stop by! Either way, you're doing me a favor too, checking them out. I've been thinking of purchasing eggs from the woman on 211 Lincoln but was a little wary about buying from people I don't know.
Anyway, I hope Sunny prevails. GO SUNNY GO!

I work in a school and I just left a second grade class where they already have 6 chicks that have hatched and one is in the process. There are still more eggs in there though.

day 19 done....nothing new to report.
the egg looks fine, no change. Sunny is in the nest & my chicken keeping friends were saying that its important for the humidity level to go up for the egg now. So I'm not taking her off the nest to eat & drink anymore, the chicken people say she knows best, her instinct is in overdrive & she'll get off the nest if she needs to.
The next couple of days should be exciting!!!!!

I hope you were able to get a baby chick for her...if not, did you call Raleigh's Farm in Kings Park? I know they keep chickens, roosters, you name it... in fact, the roosters used to find their way into the parking lot of the medical facility where I used to work!

its day 21, very early. Sunny & the egg look the same. If I don't see a pip by noon I'll have to assume the chick won't be out until tomorrow. Just like human babies, sometimes they come late. If this is the way it goes its really tricky for me to get another chick. I won't be home tomorrow to monitor Sunny, the egg and a new baby.
I'll update again when we get a pip or any other update.
