Advantages/Disadvantages of switching from crib to bed?
We are going to do this in few months and just trying to get a heads up on what I am in for

I am thinking about this too, since she won't sleep in her crib and is in our bed.
The main disadvantage I can see is her wandering around in the night while I sleep!

We put a baby gate at DS's door when we switched him to a twin bed so that he could not wander around the house at night.

Re: Advantages/Disadvantages of switching from crib to bed?
The only reason we made the move to a bed with my son was because his sister came along, or else I have a feeling that at age 3, he'd still be in his crib He was not a climber at all!
Are you trying to tell us something

Advantage: They won't climb over the high edge and fall out in the middle of the night.
Disadvantage: They can easily get out, and wander around the room/house in the middle of the night.
Advantage: They get to feel like "big kids", and it helps with them feeling important, especially with other siblings in the house (either not being the "baby" anymore, or being the "big brother/sister")
Disadvantage: Having to admit that DC is growing up....

I agree. And for all young kids, the easiest way to get them over the anxiety of a new thing is: "you're such a big kid now...." "this is what big kids do...." They eat it up.

Re: Advantages/Disadvantages of switching from crib to bed?
Definitely get a doorway gate. Nothing is scarier than a toddler wandering around while adults are sleeping. My older 2 were climbers - my older son did it at 15 months which means Matthew could potentially do it next month if he goes that same way as his big brother. It's harder at first when they are out of a crib bc they have the freedom they didnt have before. I remember both my older ones sleeping in their doorways and endlessly getting out of bed at first. They will eventually get the hang of staying in bed. Make sure the room is 110% babyproofed, including bolting all the furniture to the walls. Are you moving him soon? Mine were both out of cribs by 21 months but 14 months seems so little... I'm keeping him in his till he's at least the same age as my older ones.
