I don't really care about the first day of school thing... my kid couldn't care less about it.
BUT we do eat dinner together every night if we are both home from work (some weeks this is tough with our schedules, but we will sit together at some point at dining room table even if for tea). I don't let hubby miss dinner for gym, golf, or friends (but that's me... and also a reflection of the fact it's our ONE guaranteed time together as a family), so no, it wouldn't fly.
