Re: Another drive or fly dilemma... wwyd
I typically always vote fly but you'll have the gift dilemma too so that might add even more to the flight expense if you have to get those back. Also that time of year is SO crazy for flying. Weather delays, etc. I can't believe I'm saying it but I think I'm voting for driving on this one.

Drive....It is obviously a long drive, but you are on your own schedule. Airlines tend to overbook that time of the year and you may not even get on your flight. And then you will be paying through the nose for tickets and shipping gifts. My friends have been doing that drive since their youngest was 11 months old. Once a year for 12 years now. If I liked to fly, I would still choose to drive...

drive!! that's what life is, family road trips the good, the bad, the ugly.
we lived in Tampa for years and did the drive back to NY a lot when we were young. my mother would load 7 of us in the van and we were on our way.
I swear, if gas was cheaper, I would be in a car driving my kids all over the country

That's a LONG drive, I would worry about the weather too. Fly!
Ditto, the weather plus missing the time w/your family...

20 hrs is a lot, but im assuming you would break it up into 2 days right? not drive straight?
We drove straight last time but we had IL's with us. This time i'm thinking we'd stay over and make it a 2-day trip. Now thinking about that... that's 4 days we DON'T have to spend time with family. I'm thinking DH is right and we should just fly.
going up to ny wont be that bad, youll hang out here and so on, but coming back to FL you will be exhausted from the trip you'll need another vaca. look for deals on expedia on wednesdays, airline tickets lower their prices on wednesday so see if you can get something

I would drive. If you are going for a decent amount of time and can space the drive out when you make some "Fun" stops like shopping or browsing that could break it up a bit.
We are driving to disney in June because we just have too much stuff.
We are going to leave after work one night so the kids will basically fall asleep after a few hours and hopefully get a few states in - stop and sleep and wake up and get back on the road.

I say drive....Flying during the holidays can be crazy even though it is faster. I couldnt imagine putting my 3 on a plane at 14 months so we drove to Fla and they were great in the car I couldnt believe how well they did. I hope all goes well with whatever you decide to do.
