Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
yup, my son had it. same thing, you could see that the frenulum was long, and his tongue looked like a heart. he nursed fine also.
the ped did nothing about it, and there was never a problem. now, at 20 months, he has grown into it and you can't even tell anymore.
ETA: he chats up a storm too, so it didn't affect talking either.

Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
DS was born with a tongue tie and had it clipped around 2.5. His frenulem is still short though and it def. impacts his speech. I would see a specialist about it.

Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
DS has this too. It did affect his ability to nurse so after a long 3 month struggle to get him to latch, I had to stop. We took him to an ENT at the rec of our pedi to have it evaluated. He said that we could have it clipped for quality life reasons....say if he wanted to play the flute later on in life. He did say that he doesnt think it should affect his speech and it hasnt. We chose not to clip bc I didnt want to put our son "under" to do it. If in the future he wants to play the flute, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

DS had this and had it clipped at a very young age, I don't remember exactly when. He didn't have to be 'put under' for it. The doc said it hurt less than the circumcision.

Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
My DD had this. It was pretty bad. She had no problem eating though, so her pediatrician was against clipping it. I was tongue tied when I was born and they clipped it right away. I was actually a little annoyed they didn't clip it. Fast forward 4 years and when I took her for her first dentist visit he said that it was affecting the way her teeth were coming in, and ultimately affecting her speech. It was a pretty bad experience for her going through that at 4 (for me as well) so, I definitely recommend getting it clipped sooner than later. I am due with my 2nd in 5 weeks and I have a new pediatrician who plans on clipping right away if DS is tongue tied as well.

Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
DS has a tongue-tie and I had it when I was younger. It's hereditary. When i was younger they snip it right in the hospital. Now they wait to see if they have a feeding problem or speech problem, otherwise they leave it alone. I am taking DS to an ENT tomorrow to check his adenoids I am going to ask him about that as well.

Re: any experience with a tongue tied infant?
yes, DS had that too. We noticed it right at birth and he had the indent like you spoke about.
It did give us trouble with latching so I couldn't BF but he was fine with the bottle.
We consulting with a ped ENT and he did it at 6 months. He has a speech delay now at age 2 but doctor said it is unrelated.
