Re: Any ladies not returning to work after baby?
we could never keep our house if i stayed home.
i will be home for 7 months on maternity leave, which is better than nothing. i am excited about that.
if we could afford it, i would stay home until DS was 2-3 and then send him to full time preschool/day care and i would go back to work. i don't think i could stay home indefinitely--i would go nuts. and i don't want to be a PTA mom as i'm already a teacher and have enough of the school systems! so for now i am happy that i'm getting a little over a year to be with DS. it's a good compromise and we get to keep the house!

We could never afford for me to stay home so I am returning to work most definitely.
I dont know how some of you girls do it with the economy these days! You are very lucky! i dont know either DH and i make very good money as a couple, but if I stopped working, there is no way we would survive!!
I totally agree, with our monthly expenses it would never add up without my salary. And the worst part about it is I feel we make a nice salary! It just never feels like enough with the house and the economy!

Re: Any ladies not returning to work after baby?
We may be able to swing it on DH's salary (as long as he continues to do well---he is self-employed and business is fortunately booming right now.........that could change!) but with us, he depends on me carrying the health insurance. That extra $1300+ a month to carry a family plan I think would make or break us.
I am considering finding a less stressful, more flexible hour job solely for the benefits though after the baby is born, even if I have to take somewhat of a paycut.
We also are not sure how long we want to live in our neighborhood. It's nice (Amity Harbor) but the school district is not super-great (Copiague). Which is why I would probably need to continue working as well.........

Re: Any ladies not returning to work after baby?
seriously, I am an Assistant Principal and DH makes a good salary as well, but if that was cut in half, we would be screwed!! i understand that it makes no sense to work just to pay for day care or a nanny - but that is not really our situation
i still dont know what we're going to do right now i only have to worry about march-june of 09

Re: Any ladies not returning to work after baby?
I was out 12 weeks with DS and although I was sad to leave him, I was excited about going back to work, as I do love my job. However after being back for about 12 weeks I decided that working PT was the best option for me, I want to be home but I enjoy working and contributing financially. So I am leaving my current job for another company to work 3 days per week with LOTS of flexibility. My advice if you are on the fence, is go back FT and see how it works for you. SAH is not for everyone, neither is being a working parent, but IMO you dont know where you fit until you try it out. And you can always change your mind!
