I wouldn't say I'm freaking out but I am definitely concerned. Normally I wouldn't care at all but being pg is a different story

See that is how I feel. IF I wasn't pregnant I probably would be fine but being 30 weeks pregnant makes me nervous.
I just heard about the child in Texas, that is so sad.
I don't know how concerned to be about it.

im concerned that is spreading so quickly, unfortunately like any flu, its going to be more hurtful to the elderly, and children . Washing your hands, avoiding very crowded public places, the most important is to keep washing your hands. In NY, where i am its pretty contained right now. I hope it stays that way.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I am not really freaked out about it. I do believe the media is running with it now and causing the hysteria. I was at my OB on Monday & they didn't mention a thing, I would think if it was a BIG concern, they would have said something.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
Dh just got back from Arizona last night and we were watching the news. It showed all these people in an Arizona emergency room for the swine flu.
We both said "Oh, great!"
I'm definately more concerned because I'm pregnant.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
at winthrop their main entrance now has a sign asking people to only visit if necessary and to cover up when coughing.
the ICU which my baby is now in usually allows grandparents and parents and is now restricted to only parents....
just do your best to stay away from people, but when you see them handwash and purel

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I spoke to my dr (cause DH is really concerned, not me!) and they basically said to avoid hospitals, make sure to wash your hands a lot, keep taking your vitamins and drink lots of fluids. They said that if someone in my office comes down with it, I have to leave, but besides that they didn't seem too worried at all...

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
It's a little nerve racking. I'm home today with a cold, but everyone keeps on asking if i have the flu, so i was googling it all morning. Thank god i just have the stuffy/runny nose, cough and sore throat, or else i would really be freaking. I was just at the dr on monday and no one said anything to me about the swine flu. You would think that they would talk to you about it, if it's that much of a concern.

I am starting to get a little concerned now that the first death has occurred in the US especially since he/she is close to DD's age.

i couldn't agree more. i do think the media is having a blast freaking us all out and the mental toll this can take is much worse than the physical one.
we here (by here - i mean on the boards) at least are all UBER aware of our bodies and what we feel, we post about all the 'funky' feelings at all times....and i know my body well enough to know if something was wrong, i'd get to the doc immediately... Most of the people who have died are NOT in the US and do not have the healthcare that we do...it's unfortunate...but true.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I am as concerned about spine flu as much as I am concerned about any flu or infections disease that I would have to risk the life and health of my unborn child to cure myself with meds for.
normally I don't even get the flu shot. but it's not a normal time and I can't do the "normal" thing. I can't treat myself as I would b/c my body is not my own anymore.
one of my nieces schoolmates has a brother that has the swine flu (goes to St. Francis Prep) so we have asked the girls to be careful, wash their hands, and not to kiss me when I come in the door (they are at our apt every day as my MIL takes care of them after school)
my husband is VERY concerned...and I think it's b/c this is at a time when they feel the most helpless...it's not only their wives, but their future children...it's a tough pill to swallow.
my boss came in this morning and put a hand sanitizer on my desk. I am being sure to use it.
stay well everyone.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I'm nervous, a little...but a friend of a friend put it in perspective. She mentioned she was scared of swine flu and he pointed out that "regular flu" kills many people per year (I think it's at least 20,000) but no one is worried about that nearly as much. It's just because this is news-worthy. Pandemic-style illness ARE scary, but I'm trying to keep calm.

36,000, according to the CDC. 200,000 go to the hospital.
Just act like you've been acting over the winter during the "normal" flu season. So far, that one was much more dangerous, so whatever you did then, keep doing now...

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I actually work at St. Francis Prep. I am concerned just because knowing teenagers, they are not clean or careful at all. People are always sneezing, coughing, and touching things. I'm trying to keep calm. I've been in touch with a few doctors. I've been notified that at the first sign of a symptom I am to get to an emergency room. Right now, I just have allergies, which are extremely annoying. Just be concious of what is around you and avoid sick people.

Interestingly I a have a close family member who is in NYPD and is in charge a making an emergency plan of action because of the swine flu. They don't normally do that. So although I can't imagine what an emergency plan of action might be, I am taking this more seriously then the other forms of the flu.
