Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I believe the media is making it worse, but I'm a little nervous since I work at a school with young children.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I wasn't nervous at all and thought the media was overhyping it. But, today, I talked to my family member who was involved with a call with the CDC because, she works in a lab.
Well... Apparantly the media is actually underhyping it. It is serious and they ARE fully expecting deaths as soon as it starts to spread to the eldery and the young. We just haven't seen it yet because it is only affecting young, healthy teenagers. They know nothing about this virus and how it could mutate and how easily it spreads.
She told me that being pregnant, and unable to take tamiflu, and an asthmatic, that I really should avoid large public places and be VERY careful with who holds and touches the baby when it is born in a few weeks. SHe recommended only walking the baby around the neighborhood with the netting on the stroller to discourage touching. School closing are a very real possibility if it continues to spread.
She told me I shouldn't go into malls or food stores right now. I don't know that I would take it that far but, Dh was told to wash his face and hands as soon as he walked in the door tonight.
We'll see. It is making me think twice about having people over when the baby is first born.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I am freaked out enough that I have considered canceling my trip to New York, and my DH bought be surgical masks for when we go and I have to ride the subway.
I am not usually one to buy into what the media tells me, but I am not taking any chances being in my first trimester.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
Not really. Its a strand of the flu -- all strands of the flu can mutate and therefore, they're all dangerous to the young and elderly. People are acting like its the plague. Just do what you normally do during flu season and wash your hands often, stay away from sick people, and watch out for any symptoms.

Re: Anyone else freakin about Swine Flu?
I didn't UNTIL they started sending people from work and a group of Marine recruits arrived on Parris Island infected and have now been quarantined! I live 20 minutes from Parris Island so it makes me nervous but not insane.
They've removed everyone from work that has been to Mexico, Texas or Cali in the last 30 days. I guess it was more serious than I thought at that point but I am still trying to remain calm.
