Most of Howard Beach was not plowed. Just the main roads (the main boulevard and the avenue leading up to it).
There are abandoned cars all over the place.
I don't know how the heck I'm getting to work tomorrow if they don't plow!

My parents in Queens Village still haven't been plowed. My mom is on dialysis too. Thankfully she does it at home and doesn't have to get to the center like she did last year.

Re: Anyone else in nyc NOT have their street plowed?T
We've been plowed in Flushing, my parents have been plowed in College Point and almost everywhere we've driven today, from flushing to Whitestone to College Point to Fresh Meadows has been plowed. The streets are much better than I expected! Plus we must have seen at least twenty plows out there! DSNY workers are doing the best they can, given the conditions. There are many abandoned cars and even city BUSES that have been abandoned that are making this much worse!
Maybe we should complain about traffic cops not ticketing or towing these cars and give sanitation workers a break!

This is the latest, and I'm not sure if it's fact or not...but hey, it makes more sense to me than anything I've heard so far.
I was out walking our dog in the tundra known as Marine Park Brooklyn, and I ran into cops (literally into their car b/c I wasn't paying attention.) I asked them what the deal is and why we haven't seen a plow since Sunday, and they said "Manhattan takes priority b/c Bloomberg wants it ready for NYE."
OH OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!! Let's let the remainder of the city suffer.

They didn't plow my block, or the side streets. The areas they did plow were done 1/2 assed - only 1 lane for a 2 way turn - accident waiting to happen!! And I saw 3 plows today on my 5 minute drive with the plows up!

One of my co-workers came in from Queens today...Rego Park area.
We work in Lynbrook.
He said it was the strangest thing because he takes the Van Wyck in to Sunrise and there were just abandoned cars all over the place on a major highway.

Re: Anyone else in nyc NOT have their street plowed?T
I also want to add that even though there are a ton of cars blocking the roads for plowing, there are also big azz buses and trucks in my neck of the woods.
The MTA bus has been stuck on my corner since Sunday evening, and it's been running since, and they've already come TWICE to refuel it...or else the engine will seize b/c it takes diesel fuel.

On the news or said by a cop.... doesn't mean it's true.
The DSNY workers are assigned a garage in a specific location.... they work in the surrounding neighborhoods of that location... My DH is assigned a garage in the BRONX... we live in QUEENS... he has not touched a single borough other than the BRONX. In addition, they have not asked anyone in his garage to go to Manhattan or another location. The units are working in their assigned locations based on their garage locations.... And to be perfectly honest... what would a cop know of the DSNY assignments anyway??
Manhattan is usually in better shape than any other borough because they have such a subway system underneath that the ground melts the snow at a much faster pace... that's why Manhattan is usually a slushy mess when it snows and not an icy mess. I work in Manhattan and the streets are just filthy dirty slush!! it's pretty gross... but NOTHING where cars get stuck or anything of the sort.
IF Bloomberg is sending workers to Manhattan... he is NOT sending all workers... and furthermore he isn't even sending a lot of workers there... because the workers I know are all working in their respective units.... Queens, Bronx, etc... they aren't being sent out of their areas....

Re: Anyone else in nyc NOT have their street plowed?T
I just came home to Manhattan from upstate NY today and the roads in Manhattan are okay. Some of the side streets are slippery, but it looks like they plowed most of the streets. Looks like there are a lot of cars that are abandoned and/or stuck all over the place though. SO glad I don't have to go to work at all this week...looks like walking around here is going to be a pain in the arse.
ETA: DH's cousin works for DSNY and they ARE working their butts off to get the streets cleaned up. He worked a 14 hour shift, then came home for a few hours to sleep and went right back on for another shift. I think everyone is on it, its just crazy out there, I guess.

Re: Anyone else in nyc NOT have their street plowed?T
this is from a DSNY's mouth.....
I'm quoting from FB.. his wife will see I posted this soon too!!! kisses to you wife!
"it's annoying me watching councilman Peter Vallone Jr., Christine Quinn, and all the other idiots bashing us! I had 60 blocks to plow last night and could not get down half of them because of cars blocking the way. It's ridiculous how people see things.Grab a shovel and help out assshole! 12 hour shift! im out"
ETA: these people who abandoned their cars SHOULD BE GETTING TICKETS!! they should also of ONLY abandoned them to GET A SHOVEL and free their damn cars so plows can get down those blocks. I'll bet some of the owners of these abandoned cars are complaining about streets not being plowed too. I just don't get some people's level of stupidity sometimes.

even better!!
but i'm assuming tow trucks will get stuck there as well.... idk how they can tow a car down some of those streets. but i like the idea!! they should be! it's ridiculous!
i'm sure the tow truck guys would be all over that for the money!!!
people left their cars on HIGHWAYS... really?? HIGHWAYS!!! how insane is that!! how do you leave your car on a highway??? where did you go?? and what if someone comes driving down the highway and hits your car that's just sitting there... irresponsible!!
