Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I don't think I'm gonna go back to work after the baby is born. I feel like I'm the only one. I have my mom to watch the baby so I dont need to pay for daycare just in case, but I'm just wondering if any other LIers are not going back to work? I guess on my maternity leave we'll see how its goes for sure, but I think we'll be okay if I don't work. I'm also a hairdresser at home so I can have an extra income. Any other SAHMs?

I will be a SAHM.feel like I would be working to pay for daycare cause my check would be going towards it every I'm happy we can afford me staying home so I can spend time with my DC. I think after a year I'll go back part time and my mother offered to watch our DC. By then I think I'll need a day or two out of the house lol

Word for word here too! Couldn't have said it better! DH's cousin basically works to only pay for daycare to have someone else spend time with the child so DH and decided for at least the first 1 and half i will be home with DD. I would rather stay at home and raise DD than work to pay for someone else to raise her. We have been licing off DH's income since November so we know it's possible.

I will be home. Work doesn't know that yet. I might change my mind, but right now I am 99% staying home. I have wanted to be home and be a mommy for as long as I can remember. I totally give credit to women that can keep working and keep on top of mommy-hood as well. But for me the route is to be home.

I am going back to work , but I would love to be a SAHM if I could and not have it be a struggle . I make way too much $ to give it up and our lifestyle would change to the point where both DH and I would not be comfortable or provide as well for our child .
I do not feel that anyone but DH and I will "raise" my child and it annoys me to no end when people make that statement both on LI Families and IRL . My nanny will not raise my children, my DH and I will.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
this is my personal debate going on now. I work in NYC live in pa, so on top of the $$ i spend to commute, the rest of my salary will be full time day care. or part time if i can get my mom out here for 2 days a week. still..lots of $$ b/c i'd have to give my mom something as well to compensate her for time and tolls/gas.
i have a side business that i can now spend more time on if im home developing it fully. I do generate a nice extra income from it, so i think really after the baby i might be home.
im not sure how it works with getting maternity benefits and then resigning. i may have to come back temporarily to avoid paying back healthcare fees, etc.
I really do not want to commute this far with a baby at home or in care. DH works in philly so he's close by, but still. i think i'd rather just be home.

I wish I could be a SAHM too, but at this point we can't afford it. I really am dreading having to go back to work after DS is born. I cry just thinking about it.

I wish I could- or at least do very part time- like 2 days a week, but we can't afford it. I will work from home for awhile and then see what happens.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I will be going back to work. Daycare will only be a % of my salary & we need my paycheck. If I would have been handing my paycheck over to daycare, I would definately stay home. I wish I could stay home.

I understand why it is upsetting, I hate thinking of it too. But I think you have to admit that someone that is spending 8-10 hours a day with your child also has a hand in raising them.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I am going back not only b/c I own my businesses but for my own sanity. Our child will spend alot of time with me b/c of my schedule and flexibility but I could not be a SAHM. I love to feel accomplished. I love what I do and I help to make other people's lives better. I've been at home a ton due to the fact that my pregnancy was rough and I can honestly say working is a beautiful thing.

A hand in raising , yes. But DC will know who is Mommy and Daddy regardless of the amount of time spent in daycare , Nanny , MIL ect. That is our job as a parent to make sure that happens.
Just like when you send your child to school or summer camp when they are a little older, teachers also have a hand in raising your child YET there isn't a negative connotation put on that the same way there is when people hear that a mom has to go back to work to support her family.

you're damned if you do and damned if you dont. my mother stayed home with us our whole lives. Lots of pple looked down on her b/c she didn't work b/c they think she just sits home all day. Even now that we're grown, she's still home. But she takes care of her sick mother 5days a week, helps with the care of my fathers sick mother, watches her nephew 3 days a week, etc.
either way, its a hard decision to stay or go.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I will be returning to work but only 3 days a week. I wish I could be a SAHM but right now we opted for me to go back until #2 comes. Fortunately my MIL will watch the baby 1 day & the other 2 a friend's mom is watching. Of course we have to pay my friend's mom, but it is nothing like paying for full time childcare.
If we do find that the money we are spending for childcare is not worth it, then I will be a SAHM. We are fortunate enough that I could stay home now if needed, we are just both not ready for it.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I am going to be a SAHM. Money is definitely going to be tight, but if I were to work and pay for daycare, I would also have to pay for after care for my 7 year old DD. At that point, I would be paying each week for child care, and that's it. So not worth it. I am excited to be staying home with my DS knowing that this will be my last baby, but I am also a little worried about not going to work every day.
