Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
Right now the plan is for me to come back. I am planning on taking an extended leave (6 months).
However, we've been talking about this lately and with the cost of daycare, it almost doesn't make sense for me to come back to work. My company is pretty good about alternate work arrangements, so I may see about coming back part time - work 3 days a week.

Same with me, but at least I get a great amount of paid maternity leave before I have to go back.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
Luckily I will be able to stay home with our baby. I really can't wait
I just wanted to add, I've worked very hard for my career as well, Masters etc. however my company would not let a "new mom" work from home. Everyone in our family works full time, so even if we wanted to go that route it's not available to us. I feel I am blessed that DH has worked so hard so we can be in this position and am so thankful I am getting this opportunity.

I have to but my DH is a SAHD during the day so it's really a win-win situation.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I was given the choice to work or stay at home, and i will be returning to work without question. My career is a direct reflection on who I am as a person and feel that it contributes significanlty to my happiness...therefore, contributes significantly to the happiness in my marriage. I will put my kid in day care full time. Daycare will only cost $11,000 per year.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I'm going back to work after my 3 month maternity leave. My hope is to return part time (4 days a week) for an additional 6 months but we'll see if that gets approved.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I don't get any maternity leave from my company, so we have been saving diligently and I will take the full 12 weeks allowed by FMLA. I am trying to find a work at home situation so I can be home for the first year.
I wish $ were not an issue, but we do need my income to live.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I will in some form. I won't be doing what I am now - I have a 2 hour commute, 12 hour days... We can't afford that kind of daycare, and I also don't want to be away for that long. I am hoping I can work out a work-from-home setup with my current company. If that doesn't pan out, I might work PT for my company and PT somewhere closer to home -and work an evening shift.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I work from home(in sales) so I travel within my schedule and my boss and company have been great in accomodating my pregnancy so far. The last time I travel will be week after next when I go to Raleigh-DH is coming with me too! Then I will only do web meetings until I go out on maternity leave. My DH also works from home so we have a lot of freedom. I think we will hire someone to come in 2-3 half days a week for the babies.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
We have no option for family to watch the baby so it will depend on cost of childcare, if it costs too close to or more than what I bring home, then it's not worth it to us and I'll stay home.
ETA: We do need both incomes, but if we're spending my income on childcare then I'd rather take care of the baby and we'll just have to pinch in other areas.

If I really wanted to, I could get some part-time job at night somewhere so I could be at home all day with the babies......Still debating......

I will be returning to work. Staying home is not an option for us. We would never be able to live on just one of our salaries.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
As of right now I plan to return back to work after four months. I have registered my little girl for daycare and if something changes between now and then (like we win the lottery) then I will stay home.

I totally agree with this, I just don't think I''m doing the daycare thing, luckily in my profession there are a lot of jobs (hopefully will be when I'm done with leave) that will allow me to either do a full time home office or part time home office part time city office. I've worked my butt off to get to where I am today and I love that I bring home a strong paycheck, so hopefully if the current job I'm at doesn't allow me to work from home, I'll be able to find one that will relatively easily....

I'm returning to work full-time. We could probably live on DH's salary, but we'd have to make a lot of sacrifices, which neither of us want to do. I also like my job and don't think I could be a SAHM.

Exactly...I worked very hard to get where I am, have a great job, great salary, fantastic benefits and to top it off, I love, love love what I do. I am realistic in the idea that I may feel guilty about returning to work, but I know who I am as a person and what makes me happy.
lately, I am hearing a lot of comments about my choice to go back to work and to utilize a daycare agency instead of a parent who has offered to watch our DS for a few days per week. (They take a guess at our financial situation and recognize that I could likely stay home) But honestly, the daycare option is more convenient for our work schedules and not to mention, I want my mother to be a grandmother not a daycare provider. This could potentially cause further problems.
I just wish people would keep their comments to themselves with regard to my choices.

Re: How many of you will be returning to work after baby is born?
I can take an extended 6 month leave (inclusive of my 8-10 weeks paid maternity leave) So I'll be doing that and then returning to work -
I want to go back to work - I worked hard to get here and bring home a strong paycheck. - My company has a great work/life balance eithic though so thanfully I don't have to work 16 hour days to make the money I do -
I honestly don't think I'd be a very happy person and therefore a good wife or mother if I was a SAHM.
I know it sounds very selfish to some peole, but I need something that is "mine" in my life ........my job is mine - My work, my acomplishments, my promotion or raise .......(well, the money isn't MINE alone, but you get my point !! )
