Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I will not be going back to work. Between paying for the commute and day care, I would end up not bringing home any money so it's a wash. It's going to be tight money-wise but we think we can do it. I also don't really have a job that is a career type of job so I have no problem leaving it. Hopefully I can use this time to figure out what I really want to do for a career. That said, I have also always wanted to be a SAHM so I am happy that it is working out this way.

Re: Anyone not going back to work after baby is born?
I dont think I am going back to work after this pregnancy but I will make that call after my maternity leave.
I hate that saying too "somebody else raise my child". I firmly believe that my son is the way he is because I raised him - he is a perfect mini-mixture of me and DH. It makes no difference if he had a nanny or is now in daycare. As his parents we instill our values and beliefs and we teach him right from wrong not anyone else who may watch him during time I am work. At the end of the day he is not looking for any of his teachers or his former nanny for comfort, love or assistance. He calls for 2 people only - mama & daddy the only 2 people who raise him.

I will be going back to work. Daycare will only be a % of my salary & we need my paycheck. If I would have been handing my paycheck over to daycare, I would definately stay home. I wish I could stay home.
Posted by bellaluna I do not feel that anyone but DH and I will "raise" my child and it annoys me to no end when people make that statement both on LI Families and IRL . My nanny will not raise my children, my DH and I will.
I understand why it is upsetting, I hate thinking of it too. But I think you have to admit that someone that is spending 8-10 hours a day with your child also has a hand in raising them.
A hand in raising , yes. But DC will know who is Mommy and Daddy regardless of the amount of time spent in daycare , Nanny , MIL ect. That is our job as a parent to make sure that happens.
Just like when you send your child to school or summer camp when they are a little older, teachers also have a hand in raising your child YET there isn't a negative connotation put on that the same way there is when people hear that a mom has to go back to work to support her family.
That's a great point!! It makes me feel alot better about this whole daycare thing! Thanks!

I wish I could be a SAHM too, but at this point we can't afford it. I really am dreading having to go back to work after DS is born. I cry just thinking about it.
