Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

my company gives us off 4 weeks before due date, then 4-6 weeks depending on vaginal or c-section. Then i will take a month off with out pay

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

I'd like to take as little time off before as possible - maybe two weeks? But I will see how I feel.

We get the first six weeks at 90% of our salary and then up to 9 months off at statutory maternity pay rate (roughly the equivalent of about $800/month). I'm not sure how long we can afford for me to be off - I might only take 6 months, or I might take the full 9. We're also hoping to move back to the US, so I might not even return to my current job.

I'm taking off 6 months and working up until I'm about 38 weeks (I'm a teacher, so while I usually teach summer school, I won't this summer).

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

I'm due in 3 weeks, and working until next Friday, unless my Dr. today tells me I have to stop.

I'm also taking off 6 months

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

I have to discuss it with my boss since I do work for a small company & not entitled to maternity leave. I might take 4 weeks off but do some work for them from home & just collect disability. I do plan on working up until I give birth especially since I don't have a commute & would like to accumulate as much time off I can with when the baby is here

Legally, in NYS, you are considered disabled for 6 weeks for a vaginal birth and 8 for a c-section so you should/have to take that time offChat Icon

ETA: I had planned on working til the end, but my OB took me out of work at 36 weeks. I had originally planned on just taking those 6 weeks, but I was actually let go from my job, so I got unemployment for 5 months before I went back to work.

Just to let ya know that the best laid plansChat Icon

At 27 weeks, we're obligated to shift to half days and to work as far as we can. It's a judgement call which is good and bad. I am a workaholic so I will geniunely go as far as I can.

6 weeks from the day I am released from the hospital is when I am expected to return back unless I dip into my own vacation time. The 6 weeks are granted at no charge to me and my DH gets 2 weeks off of that with me.

I'm having a year off, I get six weeks at 90% of my normal salary and then 9 months paid statuatory maternity pay (thats like $165 a week) My job is legally required to hold my position or a similar position for a year.

We get a good deal, although my company does poor in the first six weeks, most companies in the UK give 100% salay for the first six weeks.

I will probably work as long as I can, maybe up to 36 - 38 weeks.

Listening to usuk and racheee...you've just given me a reason to want to move to the UK, not just visit!Chat Icon

It's up in the air with me but....I think I'm going to work until about a week before the birth. My district lets us use 20 of our sick days prior to and immediately after the birth. Note, IMMEDIATELY after. This stinks because the birth is June 21. Technically I won't be entitled those 20 days after because of the summer...but I'm hoping I can work out something.

NJ now has benefits for both mom and dad- you can take 6 weeks off with 2/3's of your pay. I'm definitely doing that. After that, not sure if we can afford much more since I'll have 2 months not getting paid with summer vacation. My dream is to go back in January though.

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

Since I am at my job for less than a year, I do not get the same maternity package I got with G.

I am working up until the day I deliver, or until the Dr. tells me I have to stop. I will take 6 weeks off after if I go VBAC, and 8 weeks if I go C-section. I am thinking about asking for a leave of absence for a few months, only because my mom is retiring in May, and she can watch the NB rather than me paying for 2 kids in daycare, but I have to see what the atmosphere is around here before I ask. I have up until the last week of my FLMA to decide.

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

With my daughter I worked until the day I delivered and took 10 weeks off. TOO TOO Short - I wasn't ready physically or emotionally, but my firm was going through layoffs so I felt I had no choice.

This time, I'll leave a few days before my scheduled c-section and I plan on taking 6 months off.

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

I will work for as long as I possibly can.

I'm not sure about how much time to take off, though. I may do 6-8 weeks, then work from home for awhile, then return part-time for awhile.

I don't know what the maternity leave is like for my job, but I work for my father so I am sure he will figure something out for meChat Icon

I plan on working as long as I can. I get 4 weeks paid and then I will take 2 weeks vacation and take another 6-8 weeks no pay.
I am due May 12th. I don't plan to return till after Labor Day. I have a feeling that I will want to work from home starting in August-at least 2 days a week

Re: how long are you taking off of work after the baby is born?

I am going to work as long as I possibly can..and I am due 8/11 so I'm wondering how I will deal with the humidity at that time...

Then after that I plan to take my full 12 weeks (partially paid).

My dream is to be a SAHM but that is not happening Chat Icon
