Who knows as I don't believe any of their numbers. Also the "unvaccinated" numbers n the hospitals is so deceiving.

As for the spike - I anticipate it starting again at the end of October... Just in time to impact the holidays again, around the time the vaccine is supposed to be available for those 5+

I’m not liking the numbers in my area at all. Waiting to see what unfolds with school.

Do you know anyone sick right now though that would be in those numbers?

I have some vaccinated people I know who are sick with Covid right now. And I also have an unvaccinated friend (who definitely fits the bill for someone who SHOULD get vaccinated) who is also sick. None hospitalized thankfully, but sick enough to get tested.
Also know many people with “allergies” who refuse to be tested. And I know many who are soon required to go for weekly testing and are dreading becoming an asymptotic statistic while their vaccinated coworkers who they spend plenty of maskless time together outside of work don’t have to go thru testing.
I’m just bracing myself for a repeat of last winter. I’m so done with this. Testing healthy people and driving the numbers up.

Re: Anyone want to start betting on when the next “spike” is?
I thought we were in a spike right now? Cases haven’t come down from when they started to spike in July, they are up actually. Aren’t we still in the “red” in terms of cases? Ironically, Nassau county vaccination numbers keep climbing and are now at over 80 percent I believe (thanks to all the mandates), yet covid cases still continue to climb
As far as the do I know of any cases - our school district since starting last week reported about 16 cases on Thursday and Friday. They don’t report on off days. I also know if one adult with covid pretty bad (just got the infusion treatment due to breathing issues but not hospitalized) she is fully vaccinated as of April- Johnson and Johnson.

Aww so sorry. Yes, more testing, more positives that might never have been detected since they might be asymptomatic or slight cold and never tested otherwise.

I'm guessing the next mini-spike will be after this weekend b/c of the holiday, next will be after Thanksgiving, then Christmas/New Years.

Re: Anyone want to start betting on when the next “spike” is?
I just tested because DH has COVID now, and the rapid test was negative, but they did a PCR and I am awaiting the results. I have ZERO symptoms though.
When he called it into his employer, they said they are seeing an increase in the numbers now. DH positively knows 4 of his coworkers are sick right now (and like him all have been vaccinated). He doesn't know how many others are out sick or how many of those are vaccinated/unvaccinated.

I don't get why people are upset that someone without symptoms is tested?

Just like every other illness, there is no reason to test unless you have symptoms. Do you go and get tested for the flu if you don't feel sick? Or any other illness that is contagious to others?

I know of 3 people who have gotten COVID recently and the remainder of their families haven't (mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated). And these are families of 4, 5 and 6...

I agree - who cares why someone wants a test?
I tested because my job requires I test if someone in my household is diagnosed. with COVID. Current CDC recommendations are that you get tested 3-5 days after exposure regardless of vaccination status and that is what my job follows. Truly not a big deal to get a nasal swab.

Feel better!I have had bronchitis before and that is no fun. And I hope the PCR is negative also.
Even though the numbers are rising, i think we may see a spike by the end of this month due to a combination of kids being back in school, mandatory testing, colder weather bringing us inside and the increase in commuting due to more offices in NYC re-opening.

Thanks - I don't think I'm going to be positive. I have him isolated in the master bedroom. I am sleeping in the guest room and using a completely separate bathroom. I'm washing my hands every 5 seconds and going nuts with the lysol.

If you are going to get sick, you will no matter what you do unfortunately.
My husband was so sick the November/December before this all came about and I SWORE all of us would get sick as he was in bed for 3 days. Nothing. None of us even got the sniffles.
My oldest hung out with a friend who tested positive, almost everyday, spent an entire week's vacation together. Even slept in the same bed as they stayed with friends. Nothing.

You son, in all likelihood, had asymptomatic COVID. When we were all sick with COVID my son who also had it didn't have one single symptom. Literally nothing. We only knew he caught it because he tested positive for antibodies with the rest of us. Given the circumstances you've described, it's more likely that your son caught it than not.

I never go to the doctor unless I'm on my death bed so God knows what I would have tested positive for had I gone with every little sniffle and ache. So I can't fathom going when I didn't feel sick I had to get stitches this winter and was pissed I couldn't take care of it at home. And if it wasn't on my face and I hadn't been worried about my face healing weird I'd probably not have gone for the laceration either.

Did you test him for COVID when you all had it (I'm genuinely curious - not trying to be snarky).

I didn't bother.
In fact, only my DH tested (rapid and PCR) as he was symptomatic. I started with symptoms two days after him and my DD started two days after me. As soon as I didn't feel well I assumed it was COVID, the likelihood of it being anything else was slim to none. I also assumed my DS was likely asymptomatic as I couldn't imagine he'd get away unscathed with three out of four of us sick at one time.
I did check with my primary to ask if the kids and I should bother getting the PCR done and he said since my DD and I were already sick there really was no point. All four of us took the antibody test a few weeks later though which as I mentioned, was how we confirmed my DS had it as well.
