I thought it was happening now, according to the media.
Definitely - I posted the same thing. My parents were watching the news last night and my head was spinning afterwards.
I was going to say the same- the next spike and all subsequent spikes will be whenever the media decides. Honestly, I don't even listen anymore. I'm over it. If this is how life is going to be going forward, it's not worth living anymore anyway so might as well take your chances and go out with a bang.
I don’t listen anymore either. So over the sky is falling BS. It’s not going anywhere let’s start working on better solutions and stop harping on what or which group of people are the problem. The vaccine is only part of the solution but sorry 3-4 shots a year is not a viable one either.
Sometimes I think people like to focus on problems and blame. It’s so counterproductive.
I know. They pick and choose data that fits their narrative. COVID is worse than last year but we're going to bring back the Thanksgiving Parade - it makes my head spin.
I don't think it's so black and white...I see on the media that there is a spike- but I don't think it's the end of the world-- there may well be a spike in positive cases, but it is nothing like last spring- people are not dying en masse. I'm going on with life as usual.
My neighbor told me she saw on the news that toilet paper and paper towels were scarce again. She went to Costco and they were sold out. I have no doubt they were sold out BECAUSE of that news story.
I was at Costco with a friend on Saturday and I mentioned when we were in that area that I had read a shortage was coming - as everyone in the store bought paper towels and toilet paper.
You are right - it's not black and white. But the way they were spinning it on the news was very doom and gloom. And now they are like yay! Parade!
I think that's my problem. I do think that COVID is serious and new but, I think the media is making it a lot worse than it is.
Right- it's serious, but it's not as bad as the media sensationalizes it to be. We all have to use our brains to make the right decisions for ourselves.
I think most of the population is back to normal, or semi-normal. I'm not sure why people here keep arguing that you must be anti-vaccine and go about normal life OR you're a crazy person. There is so much middle ground there and I really don't get why people care unless it affects them personally.
I don't think we'll ever have the kind of restrictions we had last year again. NYC has the vaccine card one, but I don't think that will be enforced or last. And I live in NYC, so it does 100% affect me. We'll see what happens next week when it's supposed to be effective.
I agree but it amazes me how some things are restricted and others aren't...
You can walk across the street from Queens into Nassau at the border and eat INSIDE with no Vaccine proof. But cross into Queens and suddenly it's not safe anymore! Such utter and complete nonsense. And again you know what it's all about. It's about forcing the vaccine on people. A vaccine that barely works mind you. makes sense
I live on the border of queens/nassau. There are 2 restaurants we frequent- one in queens but on the same STREET as the other, which is considered Nassau. they are 1,000 feet away from each other(I google mapped it!) and have to follow different rules. I will say, I do not think many restaurants in NYC - at least in queens will follow the rules. We've been to a few and at the hostess stand, it goes like this "hi, table for 6" and the hostess says "right this way, you're all vaccinated, right" and doesn't wait for us to answer before leading us to a table.
That's awesome. I know in Manhattan they are being stricter. At least so far. I figured the boroughs may be more laxed.

A Co-worker of mine was in the city 2 weeks ago, and had to eat outside, because he is vaccinated, and his wife is not. They did ask for his card.
Have you seen any of the recent college football games? They are PACKED!!!
While not the same capacity, bars and clubs are packed every weekend since they dropped the mask mandates in May.

My friend lives in the city and apparently there is some underground list of restaurants all over Manhattan that are turning a blind eye to the passports. I'm here for it!

I’d love to know who those businesses are to support them but knowing how some people love to report people/businesses, I do not want them to get in trouble.

My friend lives in the city and apparently there is some underground list of restaurants all over Manhattan that are turning a blind eye to the passports. I'm here for it!
Are those the restaurants that have the signs that say we don’t discriminate against race, sexuality, or vaccination status?
I think some of them yes but I also think there are more restaurants not openly advertising but still turning a blind eye to the passports.
I’d love to know who those businesses are to support them but knowing how some people love to report people/businesses, I do not want them to get in trouble.
I know. I feel like I need to go on the dark web or something to find all this info. And yes, so many Karen's lately who love to hurt small businesses that have suffered enough lately. Makes them feel important and powerful for once in their lives.

Exactly. I can see many just on this board who would do that.

Anyone want to start betting on when the next “spike” is?
Ugh LA just mandated the vaccine fir 12 and up to attend school!! I’m sick over this. Why?!?!?! We know NOTHING about the long term effects of this so-called vaccine!!!! Kids are not at risk. I’m holding back tears bc NY is going to be next.
There were healthy KIDS who took this vaccine who have serious effects.

I know. I am concerned. But can they actually mandate yet as it’s not FDA approved for 12-15? I know that’s coming and i am sure that’s the only reason why Hochul hasn’t mandated. She said she realizes parents have reservations but they have to do what’s right for their child…
ETA - what makes me nervous too as that the areas we are looking to move to - so many of the schools are already remote due to cases and quarantines.

I don’t understand the big push here to vaccinate?!
I was watching tv and the commercials pushing the vaccine are insane.
Then you see a commercial for a medication and it ends with all the possible side effects. Why don’t the vaccine commercials list all the side effects? Instead they are trying to make it look like the vaccine is rainbows and butterflies when it clearly isn’t. THERE ARE SIDE EFFECTS but those people are silenced.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2021-09-08/la-unified-leaning-toward-covid-vaccine-mandate
From the article it's not in effect yet as they have to wait for full approval before mandating.
I did not expect that districts would be mandating the vaccine for children. I'm very surprised given the most recent information on the efficacy of the vaccine overall.
I'm all for masks in schools to stop spread, and even the weekly testing I could get on board with but mandatory vaccine... ugh

I’m hoping there is enough backlash that it doesn’t happen.
I just don’t understand WHY
Why would you force a heathy 12 year old to get this vaccine? They have over a 99% survival chance. They can still spread it. They can still get it. So why??? I’d like to hear their scientific reason
Try and make my kids and I’ll present the state with a legal document that they have to sign stating they are liable for any side effects my heathy child encounters immediately after and in the future.

From the state website:
New York's young people are less likely to get seriously ill from COVID-19 but they can still spread the virus, and we need them to take it seriously.
