I just tested because DH has COVID now, and the rapid test was negative, but they did a PCR and I am awaiting the results. I have ZERO symptoms though.
When he called it into his employer, they said they are seeing an increase in the numbers now. DH positively knows 4 of his coworkers are sick right now (and like him all have been vaccinated). He doesn't know how many others are out sick or how many of those are vaccinated/unvaccinated.
I know of 3 people who have gotten COVID recently and the remainder of their families haven't (mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated). And these are families of 4, 5 and 6...
Thanks - I don't think I'm going to be positive. I have him isolated in the master bedroom. I am sleeping in the guest room and using a completely separate bathroom. I'm washing my hands every 5 seconds and going nuts with the lysol.
The problem is, he was probably contagious BEFORE he felt sick. Happened to us with flu one year. The second DH felt sick we kept far away from him- but we all caught it- he was contagious before he didn't feel well and we were all together sharing the bathroom, kitchen etc before we knew he was sick

Yes!!!! ITA.
When my DH got COVID we "quarantined" him in the guest suite as soon as he didn't feel good but realistically, I knew we were all doomed at that point. lol He started with symptoms on a Monday but he likely caught it the week before and we had already spent the previous few days together as a family. Sure enough, my kids and I also ended up catching it from him. It's so hard to avoid getting sick when one person in the house brings something home to everyone.

If you are going to get sick, you will no matter what you do unfortunately.
My husband was so sick the November/December before this all came about and I SWORE all of us would get sick as he was in bed for 3 days. Nothing. None of us even got the sniffles.
My oldest hung out with a friend who tested positive, almost everyday, spent an entire week's vacation together. Even slept in the same bed as they stayed with friends. Nothing.
You son, in all likelihood, had asymptomatic COVID. When we were all sick with COVID my son who also had it didn't have one single symptom. Literally nothing. We only knew he caught it because he tested positive for antibodies with the rest of us. Given the circumstances you've described, it's more likely that your son caught it than not.
First, I would assume her son got tested and tested negative. Second, if he had a symptomatic covid he would have most likely given it to someone else in their household that would have tested positive. We think my husband got it from my a symptomatic daughter. A symptomatic does not mean you are not contagious and it’s hard to live in a household without anyone else getting it.

Exactly to my point. Her son who spent all that time in close proximity to someone who tested positive for COVID could've very easily contracted it as well but been asymptomatic himself.
I agree with you that it's very hard to be in close proximity to anyone that is sick, COVID or otherwise, and avoid getting ill yourself. Nine times out of ten, when one of us gets sick we all end up getting sick. It's almost impossible to avoid when you're sharing such close space together.

Did you test him for COVID when you all had it (I'm genuinely curious - not trying to be snarky).
I didn't bother.
In fact, only my DH tested (rapid and PCR) as he was symptomatic. I started with symptoms two days after him and my DD started two days after me. As soon as I didn't feel well I assumed it was COVID, the likelihood of it being anything else was slim to none. I also assumed my DS was likely asymptomatic as I couldn't imagine he'd get away unscathed with three out of four of us sick at one time.
I did check with my primary to ask if the kids and I should bother getting the PCR done and he said since my DD and I were already sick there really was no point. All four of us took the antibody test a few weeks later though which as I mentioned, was how we confirmed my DS had it as well.
Thanks - yeah he’d have to do the same quarantine anyway so it makes sense as it’s not a pleasant experience, especially for kids. The only benefit would be if it was during the period you got out of school quarantines if you had a positive diagnosis in the past three months.

Exactly. We all had to quarantine for 10-14 days whether we were sick or not so putting them through the nose swab really did not make sense.

Betting on October or November...just to be convenient to push the younger kids vaccine.

They need to stop testing people who are not sick. It is inflating the numbers. The whole point of getting vaccinated is so that you do not get seriously sick if you do catch Covid. If they keep testing with no symptoms we will never get out of this hell.
It's ridiculous. School guidance now is that if you are vaccinated you do not have to quarantine if you come in contact with someone who has Covid but you should test is about 3-5 days to make sure you are negative. That makes absolutely no sense because if the point of testing people who are not sick is to not spread Covid, then waiting 3 to 5 days is useless. In those days you could be infecting 100s of people.

Re: Anyone want to start betting on when the next “spike” is?
Another view to why you would test asymptomatic is to return to work or school plus not having to quarantine for 90 afters if you are exposed again.
Recently a coworkers family got covid. Her 1.5 yr old started showing symptoms right after her mom tested positive. Her pediatrician said don’t bother with a nose swab on her because she most lies had it as well. She got worse so they swabbed her anyway and wound up positive for Covid AND had RSV as well. Hen he entire family was at 14 days, the baby’s daycare wouldn’t take her for another week based on when she tested +. Not at start of symptoms.
So there are some benefits to testing them anyway even if it’s most likely to be positive.
I agree with others. Spike will be within the next few weeks w back to school

I am just talking about the inconsistencies. If they want to test then test as soon as they are in contact. By saying not to test until 5 days later is just stupid.

I agree. He was probably contagious before he started feeling sick. However I was out of town Tuesday - Sunday. He started feeling sick Saturday afternoon and he went to get tested before I got home on Sunday so I actually didn’t see him. By the time I got home on Sunday he was isolating upstairs. I cleaned like I do whenever one of us is sick.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
My friend just lost her father to COVID too. He was also vaccinated.
I heard today that the spike in delta seems to be going down so that is a good thing but who knows...

My oldest has tested A LOT. For school and just for themselves since March 2020. Negative every time, all tests and would test after the rapid every time in case those results were incorrect.
If they never tested I would agree but this child probably tested more than most lol

I don't get why people are upset that someone without symptoms is tested?
Just like every other illness, there is no reason to test unless you have symptoms. Do you go and get tested for the flu if you don't feel sick? Or any other illness that is contagious to others?
I never go to the doctor unless I'm on my death bed so God knows what I would have tested positive for had I gone with every little sniffle and ache. So I can't fathom going when I didn't feel sick I had to get stitches this winter and was pissed I couldn't take care of it at home. And if it wasn't on my face and I hadn't been worried about my face healing weird I'd probably not have gone for the laceration either.
We are so alike lol.

The virus takes time to replicate inside of you. Viral load immediately following exposure is too low to be detected.

EXACTLY!
It's the same with strep, flu, etc. That's exactly why when my kids start getting sick I don't race to the doctor because inevitably the flu and strep tests will come back negative even though they might be sick with either. It absolutely takes a few days for the viral load to build up enough to where you'd get a positive test result. I completely get waiting a few days after COVID exposure to test. Why do it immediately and risk a false negative when you could actually be infected?

I thought it was happening now, according to the media.
Definitely - I posted the same thing. My parents were watching the news last night and my head was spinning afterwards.

The virus takes time to replicate inside of you. Viral load immediately following exposure is too low to be detected.
Yes - everyone I know who has tested recently as waited (I do know a lot of people though in the beginning who panicked and went immediately).

I was going to say the same- the next spike and all subsequent spikes will be whenever the media decides. Honestly, I don't even listen anymore. I'm over it. If this is how life is going to be going forward, it's not worth living anymore anyway so might as well take your chances and go out with a bang.

I don't get why people are upset that someone without symptoms is tested?
Just like every other illness, there is no reason to test unless you have symptoms. Do you go and get tested for the flu if you don't feel sick? Or any other illness that is contagious to others?
how would I know I have the flu if I have no symptoms..this isn't the same thing. I might be asymptomatic, but still able to transmit it to someone who isn't/can't be vaccinated, or has underlying issues which could kill them. So, whenever I am exposed to it, I get tested, symptoms or not.
So, a teacher who isn't vaccinated, could be asymptomatic, pass it to students who could get sick OR who also are asymptomatic and bring it home to an elderly or sick family member who ends up sicker/dead. That's the reasoning.
