Definitely - I posted the same thing. My parents were watching the news last night and my head was spinning afterwards.

I was going to say the same- the next spike and all subsequent spikes will be whenever the media decides.
Honestly, I don't even listen anymore.

If this is how life is going to be going forward, it's not worth living anymore anyway so might as well take your chances and go out with a bang.

I don’t listen anymore either. So over the sky is falling BS. It’s not going anywhere let’s start working on better solutions and stop harping on what or which group of people are the problem. The vaccine is only part of the solution but sorry 3-4 shots a year is not a viable one either.

Sometimes I think people like to focus on problems and blame. It’s so counterproductive.

I don't get why people are upset that someone without symptoms is tested?

Just like every other illness, there is no reason to test unless you have symptoms. Do you go and get tested for the flu if you don't feel sick? Or any other illness that is contagious to others?

how would I know I have the flu if I have no symptoms..this isn't the same thing. I might be asymptomatic, but still able to transmit it to someone who isn't/can't be vaccinated, or has underlying issues which could kill them. So, whenever I am exposed to it, I get tested, symptoms or not.

So, a teacher who isn't vaccinated, could be asymptomatic, pass it to students who could get sick OR who also are asymptomatic and bring it home to an elderly or sick family member who ends up sicker/dead. That's the reasoning.

Anything can kill you. People are just so hung up on this and don’t realize that there are bigger issues of why people are getting sick.

I don't understand your answer...hung up on what? I asked why people were upset that asymptomatic people were tested.

Yes, anything can kill you...like cigarettes can kill you, so I wouldn't let someone blow smoke in my kids face everyday...what does that have to do with Covid testing?

I know. They pick and choose data that fits their narrative. COVID is worse than last year but we're going to bring back the Thanksgiving Parade - it makes my head spin.

I don't think it's so black and white...I see on the media that there is a spike- but I don't think it's the end of the world-- there may well be a spike in positive cases, but it is nothing like last spring- people are not dying en masse. I'm going on with life as usual.

My neighbor told me she saw on the news that toilet paper and paper towels were scarce again. She went to Costco and they were sold out. I have no doubt they were sold out BECAUSE of that news story.

Again something to scare people. I have not encountered any shortage of those nor Lysol. Many people are scared and brainwashed into doing anything they are told.

But a teacher who IS vaccinated could also do the same. So why are we only testing the unvaccinated teachers? By the current narrative, teachers were amongst the first eligible for the vaccine so their immunity is questionable at best at this point. So, if you are only testing unvaccinated with the stated goal of preventing the virus from passing to others then sorry, the reasoning does not make any sense to me when a vaccinated teacher could just as easily pass this virus along as science has demonstrated recently. Please explain how you think this reasoning does make sense? Clearly, there is another reason behind this. For one, the numbers will certainly show more cases amongst the unvaccinated because they are the only ones being forced to test. That’s why the case numbers purporting to show higher case numbers amongst the unvaccinated hold zero value at this point. The more you test, the more cases you will find. The illogical handling of this pandemic continues, down the rabbit hole we all follow.

The reason is clear- to force people to get vaccinated.
My friend is totally against getting the vaccine but she feels forced to because if she doesn't, as a teacher, she will have to quarantine every single time she is exposed at school AND have to use her own personal and sick time to do so.
Now once she is vaccinated she wont' have to- but she can be passing Covid along to YOUR kids. But because she was a good little girl, and followed the rules, she gets rewarded by getting to stay in school and possibly infect people. That's her reward. Nice right?

So she is now being forced to get a vaccine she doesn't want and is petrified of taking, without them actually saying she HAS to get vaccinated to keep her job.
It's all about forcing vaccines.
Because like you said, and what you just posted, it doesn't make logical sense for any other reason.

I don't disagree with you-- but that doesn't mean the unvaccinated shouldn't be tested. I am pro-vaccine, but do not believe in the mandates. I don't necessarily agree with the reasons people have for not getting vaccinated, but that doesn't mean I think they should be mandated.

My husband never had COVID and was among the first group eligible to be vaccinated, he had his antibodies tested and they are still very high. I think it's an individual thing (due to our bodies chemistry or DNA or some other scientific thing LOL)

IMO, if we want to follow actual science then both unvaccinated and vaccinated should be tested. It should be all or nothing, since both parties can transmit Covid.

I was at Costco with a friend on Saturday and I mentioned when we were in that area that I had read a shortage was coming - as everyone in the store bought paper towels and toilet paper.

You are right - it's not black and white. But the way they were spinning it on the news was very doom and gloom. And now they are like yay! Parade!

I think that's my problem. I do think that COVID is serious and new but, I think the media is making it a lot worse than it is.

Of course they are. They keep showing all these high numbers of positive cases. Funny though we went out to eat last night and the place was packed and it was Tuesday. The hibachi part and the sit down all full. Every restaurant you pass and every store you go in doesn’t look like people are staying home sick.

i didnt read through all the responses and I am not exactly sure what you mean about testing healthy people but I will say I do not agree with % of positive numbers they produce.

Either everyone in an area needs to get tested and then you can say XX% is the positivity rate OR they should be saying out of 19 million people 300 are positive. the positivity rater will then be much less.

even with a spike are the really talking about shutting things down and more mandates. I just cant see it happening again. one i dont think the governor as of now has the power. 2 i dont think people will listen this time (they arent even listening now) and 3 i just dont even see the need for it.

Definitely - I posted the same thing. My parents were watching the news last night and my head was spinning afterwards.

I was going to say the same- the next spike and all subsequent spikes will be whenever the media decides.
Honestly, I don't even listen anymore.
I'm over it.

Right- it's serious, but it's not as bad as the media sensationalizes it to be. We all have to use our brains to make the right decisions for ourselves.

I think most of the population is back to normal, or semi-normal. I'm not sure why people here keep arguing that you must be anti-vaccine and go about normal life OR you're a crazy person. There is so much middle ground there and I really don't get why people care unless it affects them personally.

I don't think we'll ever have the kind of restrictions we had last year again. NYC has the vaccine card one, but I don't think that will be enforced or last. And I live in NYC, so it does 100% affect me. We'll see what happens next week when it's supposed to be effective.

My boss was in the city a few weeks ago and a bunch of restaurants were already enforcing it.
I think once the mayor is out, the new mayor may drop it, hopefully.

Anyone want to start betting on when the next “spike” is?

Tomorrow! Lol No I think around the end of September/Columbus day weekend. A few weeks after school starts in full swing. The sensationalism is quite entertaining.

Maybe someone on this board personally knows someone who works with the media and can ask them what date they have that planned for their broadcast. ;)

A Co-worker of mine was in the city 2 weeks ago, and had to eat outside, because he is vaccinated, and his wife is not.
They did ask for his card.

Have you seen any of the recent college football games? They are PACKED!!!

You can walk across the street from Queens into Nassau at the border and eat INSIDE with no Vaccine proof. But cross into Queens and suddenly it's not safe anymore!
Such utter and complete nonsense. And again you know what it's all about. It's about forcing the vaccine on people.
A vaccine that barely works mind you.

To say the vaccine barely works is not even remotely close to being true.

Mayo Clinic

In the U.S., the delta (B.1.617.2) variant is now the most common COVID-19 variant. It is nearly twice as contagious as earlier variants and might cause more severe illness.

While research suggests that COVID-19 vaccines are slightly less effective against the variants, the vaccines still appear to provide protection against severe COVID-19. For example:

Early research from the U.K. suggests that, after full vaccination, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is 88% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 virus caused by the delta variant. The vaccine is 96% effective at preventing severe disease with the COVID-19 virus caused by the delta variant. The research also showed that the vaccine is 93% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 virus caused by the alpha variant.
Early research from Canada suggests that, after one dose, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is 72% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 virus caused by the delta variant. One dose of the vaccine is also 96% effective at preventing severe disease with the COVID-19 virus caused by the delta variant.
The Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine is 85% effective at preventing severe disease with the COVID-19 virus caused by the delta variant, according to data released by Johnson & Johnson.

I live on the border of queens/nassau. There are 2 restaurants we frequent- one in queens but on the same STREET as the other, which is considered Nassau. they are 1,000 feet away from each other(I google mapped it!) and have to follow different rules. I will say, I do not think many restaurants in NYC - at least in queens will follow the rules. We've been to a few and at the hostess stand, it goes like this "hi, table for 6" and the hostess says "right this way, you're all vaccinated, right" and doesn't wait for us to answer before leading us to a table.
