I got a chair style than the glider style so we could use it in another room after the baby is older.

I did not BF and we still used it for bottles, stories, cuddling every day to this day and Chat Icon is 19 months.

It was a must have Chat Icon

I have one but haven't used it that much yet, mainly because I've been sleeping downstairs a lot with DS and the glider is upstairs in the master bedroom.

When he starts sleeping longer through the night and when I go back to work I will start using it again.

We don't have mush space in our apt- but my grandma is getting me the glider and ottoman combo- she says it's a must and at 93 I trust her LOL - just not sure where we are going to put it yet- originally I thought the living room but I might see if there is space in our bedroom for it- that's where we will have baby as well

I have one and never really used it. Right now it's in the corner of the room with stuffed animals on it.

I didn't have one with DS and I really missed it. I just used a rocking chair and it was never that comfortable.

I just got a Shermag on sale at Babies R Us and it is heavenly! I love it. I don't think you need to spring for the ottomon, though. I just bought the simple Medela breastfeeding stool (even if you're not breastfeeding it's nice to put your feet up a little).

IMO, no a glider isn't necessary, but it's really nice to have.

At 21 months we have used it every single night we've been home.

I also didn't think it was necessary, but a generous friend bought us one as a gift and I was SO glad. I used it not only for feeding, but for rocking and soothing the baby, and to read to him.

We kept the glider in our living room for the first 8 months, until we moved and then it went in the nursery. We still give him bottles in the living room (on the couch) but I use it for reading bedtime stories and for something for me to sit on in his room if I don't want to sit on the floor.

Beth, we got a Lazy Boy recliner/rocker and WE LOVE IT!!!! I didn't use it at first, because he basically slept with me for 2 months, but once he was in the crib, we both use it all the time.

Get something that is comfortable, for us it was worth every penny. I use to rock him to sleep before naps and bed. Phil uses it too.

HIGHLY recommend getting a glider!! my son is 16 months and we still use it ALL the time. it is indispensible, in my opinion.

ETA: doesn't matter if you are BFing or not. as a matter of fact, i used it more when i gave bottles than when i breastfed.

As a BTDT mom NO they aren't necessary but they are nice to have. If I had room and the money and did it all over I would get one again. I do use mine, DH would sit in it to feed DD a bottle of pumped milk. I would just rock her in it and would read to her in it. But honestly if you don't have the money or the room I would say you can do without it.

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

At first we didn't get one. Then after Kaydyn was about 2 weeks old my DH went out and bought one.

First it made it easier to feed her in the middle of the night. We kept the lights off for middle of the night feedings to get her to realize it was night time.

Kaydyn had a fussy time around 8-9pm. I would take her in the room and put on some music and rock and sing to her. Usually quieted her right now.

We had Kaydyn in the crib from day one though so it was convenient feeding her in her own room in the middle of the night.

Originally we weren't going to get a glider. But we found one really cheap at BRU the day after Thanksgiving. I am SO glad we have it. We use it several times throughout the day, especially at night.

Yes I got one with an ottoman and I loved it. I would rock her to sleep when she was little, and it was nice to feed her in that chair also.

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

I love my glider... I figure when I am done with my kids I can put it in a family room. DH loves to nap on it when DD takes naps.

Honestly, I got a Dutailier (sp?) from BRU - very comfortable. It was a great purchase. We use it all the time, even now that she's older. I was unsuccessful with BFing, but we usually take DD into her room for bottles even know... so she can relax and enjoy without any of the distractions the rest of the house may bring... and too.. she's almost 20 pounds so it's really much more comfortable to give her a bottle in the glider. My kids may share a room for a while, but later on I may move it into the baby's room - if they ever have separate rooms.

I think it's worth it. With Aly, we did not have one.

We had one for Paul and it was great, because as they get older, they can get easily distracted when feeding (BF or bottle) so my kids got used to eating in a quiet calm environment. Now, Paul will sit in our laps, read a book, cuddle a bit and go to sleep in his crib.

I like the gentle gliding motion tooChat Icon

Re: Are you getting a glider? BTDT moms, is the glider necessary?

I was on the fence about getting one since DS's nursery was small. I caved right before my shower and I have to tell you we still use it --- I used it to BF and FF, my husband used it to FF .... we used it to sooth DS, cuddle with him, read to him, etc...

I would suggest something for you to sit in for at least the middle of the night. I never had DS in bed with me and sitting on the couch in the living room was not my idea of fun at 3 am. The glider was not only soothing to DS, but also to me on those long nights. I was able to feed him and rock myself while I was half asleep.

i can honestly say this was one of the best things we have..rocking in her at night when she was going to sleep or in the middl eof the night for a feeding..i didnt think i'd use it as much as i did, but i loved having mine.

We have a relatively large nursery & it is one of the items on my MUST have list. I do not want a classic glider though but more of a chair. I will be breastfeeding but I also want a place to sit in case of sleepless evenings.

We just bought pretty much this one. It really does help on sleepless nights as stated here.

That's what we plan on getting as well. I can't really see DH being comfortable in any of the gliders, and since he'll be spending lots of nights in there too, we both want to be comfortable.
