Babies & hospitals - WWYD?

DS is going to be here until the earliest tomorrow but more realistically Tues or Weds. He's dying to see his sister and obviously so are me and DH (we both slept here last night). So my mom is bringing her here. DS is in a room with a teen with a broken leg and a newborn who I've heard is going home but I don't know why he's here.

Would you bring a 4 month old here if you were in my situation? Her ped said she'd avoid it but understood we wanted to see her and just said to be careful and not keep her here long. WWYD?

Re: Babies & hospitals - WWYD?

no way, no how.

It's too risky. I understand what you are saying, but for a few more days it's not worth it.

Re: Babies & hospitals - WWYD?

I wouldn't. Sorry. Chat Icon Maybe you can skype so ds can see her? He will prob think that is super cool. I would have your mom come up, and you and DH can spend some time w/ dd walking around the hospital or such. This time of year there is so much going around, I wouldn't chance it.

Wow...

Thank you to the rest of the posters who were honest but actually have a sensitive bone in their bodies. We're not going to bring DD upstairs. This whole situation just s*ucks Chat Icon

Honestly, in that situation, i think i would. I mean, obviously you'd take extra precautions (keep her in the baby carrier if you can, receiving blanket covering the whole thing when you're walking in the hall around anyone else, don't expose her to anyone except DS.... sanitizing the sh*t out of your hands, often and much Chat Icon ).... but i definitely think that you can confine her enough- especially at that age- that you can keep her from being exposed. The big thing is really keeping her covered in the hallway though, so she doesn't get a sneak attack from anything airborne Chat Icon

Re: Babies & hospitals - WWYD?

no, definitely not!!

this is coming from someone whose baby WAS in the hospital for 3 days and i couldn't see DS that whole time. it hurt, and i missed him, but i wasn't bringing him to the hospital. and he was 2 years old.

there is so much out there, i wouldn't take a chanceChat Icon i don't know what happened, but i hope your child feels better soon!

I would. Germs are everywhere, not just hospitals. Lots of hand washing and away from strangers, floors, touching random things and she should be fine.

Re: Babies & hospitals - WWYD?

It depends. Honestly if they are really twitching out being away from each other, then I might go early in the visiting hours before the bulk of visitors show up. Also, if the other kids in the room are not contagious then I would not worry so much about exposure that way. I'd also wait for an empty elevator, etc, if you decide to go.

We had a situation when DS1 was an infant where I was in the hospital. It sucked, but I was not letting him up to see me at all b/c I had a contagious person (MRSA) in the bed next to me. It was the longest 5 days of my life, but I had no choice.

ETA: I do like the Skype idea as well. I think it is a great way for your DS to *see* your DD

ITA with this! My son spent the night and most of the next day in the hospital when he was 6 weeks old for what we later found out was a milk protein allergy. He had a roommate and he didn't catch anything while he was there. I would absolutely do it, and just be extra cautious, as I'm sure you would! Chat Icon

I wouldn't.
If he's heading home on Tues, then I wouldn't.

Is there any way you can take a video of his sister for him to watch on a computer?

Hope he's feeling better.
