Baby sleeping in room question???

Where will your baby sleep the first few weeks/months? Also, what will you baby sleep in?

I don't know if I should get a bassinet, cradle or a PnP. At first I wanted a bassinet, but I want my baby in the room with us for a while and I know they tend to outgrow them fast. Please feel free to add any other thoughts, suggestions. ThanksChat Icon

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

I will have the baby in my room for probably 5 months. My husband will be in his last year of getting his MBA so we will be moving 5 months after the baby is born. I really don't feel like setting up a whole nursery in the office to use for a short amount of time. I going to get a bassinet and hope that it will last for the 5 months, if not, I will set up the PnP and use that instead.

DS will be sleeping in his crib from day 1. We do not one to have to do a transition period.

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

I have a small house and 3 step children who are with us on the weekends [sharing 1 bedroom] so I wanted DD in our room for as long as possible. At first she slept in this Graco bassinet:

When she got too long and heavy for the bassinet, she slept in this Graco PNP [bassinet part]:

After she outgrew the PNP, she went into her crib. She had no problem whatsoever sleeping in the crib. With #2 on the way, and thankfully we are building a small extension, I am still going to have DC #2 with us for a few months like we did with DD. It's easier esp with getting up during the night. Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

I have the arms reach co-sleeper as well that we used with DD. But I think this time around I'm just going to start off with the PNP because I think DC#2 will be in our room for awhile since we only have a 2 bedroom home.

I really like both of these! Is the bassinet really neccessary, they look so similar? Or, is the PnP okay t start off with. Also, is the PnP pretty comfy for the baby or are the bassinets much more comfy? ThanksChat Icon

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

Just make sure to get a Bassinet with a higher weight limit and one that is sturdy - like if you shake it it doesn't rattle.

My DS was in a bassinet in our room until he was 4 mos. The bassinet was amazing - it is from PBK - the weight limit was either 22 or 25lbs and it was VERY sturdy.

We are going to to do the same thing this time around if it works out. HTH!

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

DH & I want the baby in his/her own room in the crib BUT I know I will miss the baby. I am trying to think of ways to convince DH to let us have the baby sleep with us on the weekend. I'll probably get a moses basket or bassenet just in case.

DS was in our room until 6 months in a bassinet. I never expected him to be there that long but I couldn't move him...I loved him being in the room too much.

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

We plan on moving around spring of next year, we currently live in a 2 BR townhouse, and the second bedroom is on the main floor and the master is upstairs. We're going to put the baby in the crib in the loft right outside of our bedroom.

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

it depends on my delivery. if i have a v-birth, baby will probably go right into his crib in his nursery. WITH a video monitor.

If i have a c-sec, baby will likely be in the bassinet portion of the PnP right next to my side of the bed. (less moving for me)

The bassinet isn't necessary really, but I registered for both on purpose. We have a colonial and kept the bassinet and a changing table in our room upstairs and the PNP downstairs in the living room for changing DD and for naps. When she was too big for the bassinet, we put it away and put the PNP in our room and the changing table in the living room. DD spends most of her time in the living room/downstairs so the changing table is still downstairs and the PNP is put away. Chat Icon

ETA: The bassinet is definitely smaller than the PNP. So if you were to get one, the PNP would definitely last longer but takes up more room. HTH!

Thanks, this does help a lot:) I might bypass the bassinett and go for the PnPChat Icon

Re: Baby sleeping in room question???

We are going to try to introduce DC to the crib right away but if we have to we will use the PNP in our room as a bassinet.
