What would you expect to pay a sahm who is watching your 16 month old 5x a week from 730-330pm and a 4 year old when PreK is closed. Mom is a teacher.

I have a one year old and my 5 year old will be in school all day.

An unlicensed mom watching your kids at her house off the books? No more than $10 an hour IMO.

On the books but that’s what I was thinking too.

I think it also depends what you expect from her. Are kids going to sitter’s Home or is sitter coming to you? Do you need her to provide/prep meals? How much teaching/engagement with the children is expected?

I’m the sahm. The kids would be coming to my house. I would expect I would be providing meals. I do educational activities and library and toddler outings with my 1 year old so I would expect to do the same with their child.

$10 isn’t even minimum wage in NY. I would pay $15 an hour.

Since it’s on the books I would say more than $10 but not much since you will be with your child. I would add $2-3 extra when her other child is there.

I pay a sitter $20 an hour for 2 17 month olds all cash and have paid this rate since I went back when they were 4 months old. I would say $12-$13 an hour on the books

Maybe $12 per hour for the 16 month old and $15 per hour when it's both kids.

How is someone both a teacher and a sahm?

I typed the message at the pool. Sorry. Just reread what I wrote. I’m a sahm. The mom of the children I would be babysitting for is a teacher.

Are you a licensed and insured daycare? Are there other kids? Are you providing meals and diapers?

Are you going to be on the books?

My opnion will vary then most because I think daycare costs are absolutley out of control.

If its off the books I def wouldn't be paying anymore than $300 a week. On the books (meaning you will have to pay taxes because I would be claiming daycare costs on my taxes)I would maybe maybe go to $350-$400. The days you may have the prek I would go up another $50-$1-00 depending if its the whole week a lot.

Daycare center for newborn cost about $300-$350 a week they provide meals and snacks (when they start to eat). While you are not a daycare center its also not one on one since you will have your own child there splitting your attention between them.

I would also supply all formula and diapers until they grow out of them.

If you're getting paid on the books, you need to get paid at minimum wage at least.

I pay an unlicensed family friend to watch my 2 year old in her home 7pm-3pm 4 days per week $200/week off the books. I provide all meals, diapers, etc. and there are other children as well... since you're not watching other kids besides your own, I would probably expect double what I pay. Maybe $350-400/week

My sisters at home licensed babysitter charges her $55 a day for a toddler. The babysitter feeds him too. It's not double for 2 kids, but I'm unsure what the rate is for 2. That's for 9-10 hours. I babysit for people I know and if it's a regular thing I charge $35 a day. I'm a sahm now but also a licensed teacher. We are in central/eastern Suffolk if that makes a difference.

question/opinion cause I am just wondering since this is not one on one child care and she will have her own kids with her you wouldn't consider that in the price? She basically is getting paid to watch her own child also. To me I feel like that should be considered I don't get to bring my child to work with me which is why I need the child care. So IMO her price should consider the fact that she has her child so in essence is saving money. This is at least my line of thinking.

Yup, exactly. I would never pay someone $600 a week to watch my child with their own child. It's not a nanny situation. Daycare and most preschool teachers don't even make that. Not even close to that.

I agree with this line of thinking too.. Kind of the same thought process as to why if you are watching multiple kids at the same time you cannot charge each parent $15 an hour.

I would say 300-400 a week seems fair. If you as the sitter are providing all meals and snacks-- $400/450.

I agree with this line of thinking too.. Kind of the same thought process as to why if you are watching multiple kids at the same time you cannot charge each parent $15 an hour. That being said it is a job you are committed to and it prevents you from doing what you want with your own child.

To shake this up further why get paid on the books? In this situation seems to make more sense to be paid off the books.
