question/opinion cause I am just wondering since this is not one on one child care and she will have her own kids with her you wouldn't consider that in the price? She basically is getting paid to watch her own child also. To me I feel like that should be considered I don't get to bring my child to work with me which is why I need the child care. So IMO her price should consider the fact that she has her child so in essence is saving money. This is at least my line of thinking.

Yup, exactly. I would never pay someone $600 a week to watch my child with their own child. It's not a nanny situation. Daycare and most preschool teachers don't even make that. Not even close to that.

Thanks everyone. I messaged her my rate so we shall see what happens. I have a friend who also reached out to me so I’m chatting with her too. As my cousin who babysits said I have to pick a rate where I don’t feel like I’m getting taken advantage so I don’t end up resenting the job.

$35 a day? I’m sorry that is way too low unless you are babysitting for like 3-4 hrs.

$10 an hour is what I used to pay the 16 year old across the street to watch my kid for a night out.

A mother watching my kids as a nanny? $15 per hour for one child and $20 for 2... $25 for 3. I do t care if your own children are there or not. Watching other people’s kids is DEMANDING. Don’t sell yourself short. Daycare workers get paid shit for what they do. It’s ridiculous.

HS students charge 10-15 an hour. My babysitter is getting paid 300 a week off the books to watch my self sufficient kids for 4 hours a day. A 16 month old is a lot of work, don’t settle for $350 a week.

My sisters at home licensed babysitter charges her $55 a day for a toddler. The babysitter feeds him too. It's not double for 2 kids, but I'm unsure what the rate is for 2. That's for 9-10 hours. I babysit for people I know and if it's a regular thing I charge $35 a day. I'm a sahm now but also a licensed teacher. We are in central/eastern Suffolk if that makes a difference.

$35 a day?! Are you accepting new children??

At the bare minimum, $10/hour for 1 child and more, either a few dollars on top of the rate or a flat daily fee when the older child needs to be watched. On the books vs. off the books also makes a big difference in the rate, and I would probably charge closer to $13-15/hour especially if you’re providing food, taking them to activities, etc.

Before my dd went to K this year I had the same schedule with my babysitter. I paid her $300 cash every week and as a SAHM that was already home with her child she was very happy with that amount.

I agree -- You cannot compare paying someone hourly to watch your kids while you go out to a movie to a full time job, off the books. I think 300-400 cash is fair.

When I took my son to licensed home daycare, 5 years ago, it was $7/hr for one child each additional child was $3.50. So $10.50 an hour for 2 kids . They were on on the books business.

There is a difference if the child is being brought to someone's home vs a sitter coming into the child's home. I have a sitter now that comes to my house and I pay her a higher rate for that convenience. She is not expected to do anything but care for my child while she is at my home. She also takes him places as she wants.

I used to drop off my son when he was a baby till he turned 2 (went to a school program) to a SAHM at her house for a few hours in the morning until my DH picked him up, we paid her $10 an hour. She would watch other kids as well.

But, this is why we went with a daycare for my DD vs. a nanny. I would not be able to afford the hourly rates that are asked.
