No offense, but are you a regular poster using a fake name? You have all of 5 posts with two of them being "vents" about very specific things. Not to mention, you've been around since March of 07.

Re: Backyard Parties Vent

LOVE backyard parties! So much more so than just sitting in a seat at a restaurant.

eta: its NOT about the $$ for me. I just much prefer to throw parties at my house than out at a restaurant. Ella's birthday party will be an outside clambake, and Erik's christening will also be a backyard party.

You're not invited, so don't worry

WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Don't go then. Not everyone has the money to always have a party in a hall.

I love backyard parties. If getting invited to too many of them is your only problem you are very lucky.

I also don't think they are a cheaper alternative to restaurant parties I think they can cost just as much if not more. Besides them not being cheap the host has a lot more work to do.

I don't get why everything has to be a big party to invite everyone. This one's 'moving up' ceremony, that one's 11th birthday, the other one's confirmation... I don't remember my Mom having all sorts of parties for my sister and I growing up.

It’s easy to say ‘just don’t go’ but people expect you to go. I admit I am anti social Chat Icon

I would prefer a backyard to a restaurant, though.

Same here.

I love backyard parties! I'd rather go casual and hang out than sit inside in one seat the whole day.

Back yard parties can be nice because you aren't rushed out at a certain time.

True but that could be a bad thing. I do like parties outside the home b/c they have a beginning and an end. That way, you don't get stuck endlessly with certain family members who don't know when to call it a night! And it's much easier to get away from that MIL or FIL that annoy you to no end! Chat Icon

But I do like house parties too, as long as there is enough space, plenty of shade, plenty of seating and it's comfortable.

Re: Backyard Parties Vent

Backyard parties rule. They are, to me, such a REAL celebration. I've been to backyard 30th, 1st and every age in between b-day parties, christenings, and just plain old get togethers. The only thing I hate are the large heroes that sit out all day. It's just a personal thing though. They gross me out.

Simple solution... don't go.
Not everyone has the money to lay out for a restaraunt or catering hall.

Re: Backyard Parties Vent

Im tossed about this. If I had to go to a shower or party in this weather, I don't think I would be happy. I know older people don't handle the heat. My MIL had my SIL bridal shower in the backyard. It was a very hot day. Living south of Merrick Road, the bugs were horrendous. Everyone kind of went inside trying to get some relief. To boot my MIL only had a wall air conditioner in the living room. But on the other hand, I love a BBQ's in the backyard with my friends where everyone can mingle and the kids can have fun. So I guess it depends on the situation and weather.

When I don't want to go somewhere I simply don't go. You had to know that would make some people feel bad.

Half the reason I'm excited to move to our new house is so we have a backyard to have parties in.

I love backyard parties!!! I look forward to the day when I can do my own.

But what I DON'T like is feeling obligated to go to every invite.

Re: Backyard Parties Vent

I'm glad that not every party we are invited to is the same. Some are at restaurants, some in backyards. Some are very simple. Some are extravagant. Whether I like a party depends on the company. I have known people who've thrown backyward parties thinking they would save money, then they had to spend the same amount as they would at a restaurant.

That's why we bought one! We've been planning a massive 4th of July party since January!

But...I think christening parties should be outlawed!

If I get one more invite to a backyard birthday or christiening. I hate them. Why do people think we should be subjected to that heat. I have kids. Never would I expect people to come in the heat. I've alway had things at restaurants and halls.

Unless you will be paying for my next couple of parties they will be in the backyard. If you don't like the heat. Stay home. It is not that serious. Most likely the party won't suck if you're not there
