Bassinet or Rock n Play?

For those who will not have the baby in the crib immediately, do you plan on having the baby sleep in a bassinet or the rock n play? The rock n play gets rave reviews but my concern is if she becomes too accustomed to sleeping on an incline there might be issues transitioning into the crib a few months down the line.

Thoughts?

Bassinet or Rock n Play?

Rock n play! Didn't even get a bassinet for both dds.

Both girls transferred to the crib no problem at all. Dd1 at 7 weeks and dd2 at 9 weeks

Bassinet. My first was in one, then we switched her to the crib around 3 months.

Bassinet or Rock n Play?

we had both and she hated the bassinet. I think the RNP is more comfortable.

Baby1 slept in the bassinet attachment of our uppbaby stroller. we were short on space in the city and it worked great for us. We had a rock n play but didnt have him sleep nights in there because I was afraid he would have trouble transitioning to the crib.

Baby2 a good friend gave us her cosleeper so we sidecarred that with our bed. It worked great.

I know many people who had issues with flat head or transferring to crib from rock n play so while its a great thing to have I would be hesitant to sleep nights in it. Others do love it for that though

Re: Bassinet or Rock n Play?

Get the RNP. It was a life saver. Especially because my son had horrible reflux and ended up contracting Whooping cough so he needed to be upright for quite a while.
I wish this was around when my girls were babies, it was so nice to have.

All 3 kids HATED the bassinet.

We are thinking of using that bassinet with Uppababy stroller as well (also in the city). How long did you use it for?

Newborns actually prefer an incline, that's when you look in a hospital nursery, all their little bed carts are inclined.
Neither of my kids slept flat for the first few weeks, they would just scream, the rock and play worked for us. Both transitioned to the crib without a problem. But we transitioned within 2 months.

Don't let anyone tell you they will get flat head from the rock and play - which people love to say. Their heads are flat against a bassinet too. It has nothing to do with what they are sleeping it, but how much time they are spending in swings, bouncers, etc and not upright and being held. Night sleeping will rarely contribute to flat head.

DS hated the bassinet so we used the rnp. When I had dd I didn't even bother with the bassinet and put her in the rnp. DS went into the crib at around 8 weeks and dd was 12 weeks.

Bassinet or Rock n Play?

I have a RNP and a co sleeper. I used both with dd and switched it up a lot. I'll do the same with this baby.

In going with the bassinet, I'm nervous about transferring from RNP to crib.

I was too and was planning on getting a wedge to put under the crib mattress but we ended up not needing it at all... at least not for #1. We'll see what happens with #2.

Let the baby sleep wherever the baby wants to sleep. DS slept primarily in his swing. DD slept primarily in her RnP. Both transitioned easily because eventually the babies want more space. And once they start to roll, they usually like rolling onto their tummy to sleep. Don't worry about transitioning. Get as much sleep as you can in the beginning.

I think I am going to get a rock and play for the living room and to bring when we are out but have the halo bassinet for bed time. My bed is really high and the RNP is way to low to the ground for me at bed time.

I'm not a fan of the RNP. Did a bassinet with #1 until she grew too big for it and we moved her into crib at 4 months old. Will do the same with #2

When we transitioned to crib from RNP, we elevated the crib with a few books under one side. We gradually took out the books until it was flat and he did fine.

We had a rnp for our dd and getting her to sleep in her crib when she outgrew the rnp was a nightmare for us. So with this baby we plan to use a bassinet so he gets used to laying flat from the beginning .

Re: Bassinet or Rock n Play?

We used the RNP for DS. He slept through the night in it pretty early on. I was terrified to transition because I waiting until he was 5 or 6 months old. The first night was hell.....the second night was back to normal. We did not elevate the crib though.

I will be using it again for #2. It was priceless to us.

Rock n Play...Get the one that Rocks it self. I have had both and DD loves the RNP and never sleeps in the bassinet. Edit to say that I love that you can take it places with you. When we go visit family we take it with us.
