Bday party related: Which party would you invite this family to?
Pressing question that was keeping me up last night at 2am
Christopher is having two birthday parties, a kiddie party and a "family" party
Chris' best friend lives on SI and is married and has a 6 year old son.
Kiddie Party is going to be on Saturday at McDonald's, all of the kids are Christopher's age, my parents will be there, who have met Joe and his family....
"Family" party is on Sunday, it is mainly my family with a few of Chris' family members mixed in. If they come, he knows Chris' SM and the kids, again, my parents and Chris' partner from work is coming with his kids. My cousins will also be there and they are 8 and 13.
So, which party would you invite them to?

My only concern is that Christian will have more fun at McD's....
They really aren't what I would call family friends, they are DH's friends and my friends with kids are coming to the kiddie party, KWIM?

Where are the parties happening? Is there one location that's easier for them to get to? You're all over the place so I'm thinking the parties could be LI, NYC or SI, or a combination I'd probably invite them to the easier location one, I don't think it'll matter to the kid which one he attends (or the parents for that matter!)

I agree. If there is one located more conveniently for them, I would go with that one.
If they are the roughly the same distance, I would invite them to the family party.

Neither-too hard to decide so screw them.
Probably the kiddie party if that is where the friend crowd is going to be. Or-ask DH. They are his friends, he can figure out where they would be most comfortable.

I'd invite them to both and let them decide to come to one, the other or both. Is that possible?

Neither are easier, they are both out here by me now.
I feel like I would invite them to the family party, but they will stand around and talk to no one anyway (as they did at my wedding, RD and they left my reception 10 mins into it) and at at least at McD's, Christian will have fun but he'd be much older than the kids (Buuut McD's doesn't close off the area for bday parties either)
I am truly confused by this for some reason....

Oh just get him a happy meal to eat at the family party and call it a day Just kidding...
How old is the oldest kid coming to the McD's party? I was thinking age wise he might be better off at the party with the 8yr old but maybe not (guess it depends on the kid). I could totally see a 6yr old having more fun at a McD's party. But I was also thinking it might be a long drive from SI for a 1.5ish hour long party bc your family party would probably be longer, right? Unless you invited them over after the McD's party so it's not as quick of a stay, KWIM?

Re: Bday party related: Which party would you invite this family to?
Our situation is this, DH has a cousin who has a 3 year old daughter. They normally would not be invited to the family party because they are part of the "extended" family and there are just too many to invite all.
But we have already decided she would be invited to kiddie party because they are closer in age and always have playdates.
I would go along with the same feeling in your situation. Invite them to the kiddie party.
I know at our kiddie party not all the parents will know each other, so that shouldn't necessarily be a concern.

Having 2 parties for a kid is tacky. You didn't ask, I'm just throwing it out there Plus all of your "dilemma" questions lately are giving me a migraine.

Is this Cheech? I'd ask them which one they'd prefer to come to.

I'm leaning toward family but would give them the option since they're driving the distance. Belt Parkway - blech!

Yeah, well we have to go to all of their parties too, remember
We are on SI way more than anyone comes here (ie Chris' sm and his partner lives on SI too, they aren't the only ones coming from there )

Then you get why giving them the option is the way to go
I hate, hate, hate that drive. I did it for weekends one summer & from then only decided to date only geographical desirable people.
