being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

any BTDT moms out there who were induced? talk to me about it... what are the pros and what are the cons? is there a risk to the baby if you are induced?

if you were induced, why were you and did you end up with a c-section?

TIA

I was induced twice 3 days after my due date. Both good experiences and both vag deliveries!

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I would only be induced if there was a medical necessitity for it.

With that said, I was induced a week early with DD due to my gestational diabeties.

I had a VERY quick and and easy labor/delivery vaginally and recovery. There was no risk to the baby, she was perfect.

From the time they started the pitocin and broke my water, till the time DD was born was less than 6 hours.

This time, due to the location of my placenta I am having a scheduled c-section.

i was induced alomst 2 weeks early do to cholestasis. I was given 3 rounds of cervadil and after about 30 ours I did not progress, but was contracting. Babys HR was dropping and Dr decided to do a c/section before it became an emergency. Although I went throug 30 hours of being induced it wasnt a bad experience (just take pain meds that they say they can give you for the contractions) and my c/s was a very good experience as well

ITA. I had an induction and it led to an emergency c. If I could do it over again, I would have waited an extra week to see if I went into labor on my own. Inductions can have a domino effect. I was induced with cervadil, it didn't do much, then they gave me pitocin, it didn't do much so they broke my water which hurt like hell, leading to me needing an epidural, which killed any hopes of me progressing because I got it before being very dilated. So since I was on the clock because they had broken my water, the only thing they could do was give me an emergency c.

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I was induced for medical reasons, one week early. The induction itself was a success b/c I made it to 10cm dilated, but ended up with a c-section due to DS's positioning. However, the pitocin is no joke, it makes the contractions stronger, and both my epidurals failed, so I felt everything, and I had back labor.

So I would only recommend if it's medically necessary, and/or if you are already showing some progress, because a lot of times inductions fail if you aren't showing any progress.

I was induced three days after my due date. The baby's bladder wasn't empyting as quickly as the doctors would have liked.

I had a great experience, delivered vag and would definitely do it again. Plus it worked out well because it turned out that the baby took a little poop inside, so they faster she was out the better.

Good luck!

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I was induced the day before my due date because they thought (from growth sonos) that DS was going to be HUGE. Yeah, turned out not so huge, this is why I don't even notice/ask what the baby's size/weight is anymore during sonos, so unreliable. Anyway, they thought that waiting until I went on my own because I had been 2 cms and 50% effaced for 3 weeks with no change was going to be too long and he would get even more huge so they induced me. The actual process wasn't bad, though I was in labor for almost 24 hours, pushed for 3 hours and ended up with a C and I attribute it to being induced. I'd like to push for a VBAC this time around as I just feel like I rushed nature but we'll see, I didn't feel great about being induced it when it was suggested to me but I kind of felt like what do I know I'm not a dr. I should have went with my gut.

The C section was easy, but just not what I wanted. If I could go back I would have stuck to my guns and insisted on waiting. Do not induce due to "size", that's my only advice.

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I was induced with #1 because I didn't go into labor until 41w5d and even then I wasn't progressing. The induction itself was fine. I wanted to do pain med free delivery but could not handle the pitocin contractions. The contractions went right on top of eachother at 100000x intensity. JUst something to keep in mind about pain meds. But it worked meaning I went to full dilation and started to push. After pushing for 4 hours I needed a c-section because DS was sunnyside up and could not make it out. His head was right there but couldn't get around the last bone. The doctors tried turning him but since he was 9 lbs he wouldn't turn. So I needed a c-section- but not because the induction failed. The induction drugs did their job.

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I was 41 weeks when I got induced my DS was stubborn!! had 12 hours potocin and 12 with cervadil I felt no pain and the contractions were so so mild, the nurses were like you are ok need drugs I was fine CRAZY RIGHT!

Nothing was happening only dialated to a 2cm decided to go for the section that next morning!DS was 8pounds 6 oz. I will have another section with this baby I guess my body just did not want to go into labor..do not want to take a chance of being in heavy labvor then ending up with a section at the end!

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

thanks for everyone's stories!

my OB told me at my last apt that he isnt going to let me go too far past my due date (which i would prefer b/c i've heard horror stories) but he also told me that he could possibly induce me at 39w depending on what the situation was

i think i'm going to hold out as long as he will let me.. but obviously if he says he needs to induce due to a specific reason, then i'm going to listen to him

Re: being induced -- pros cons? BTDT moms come in!

I was induced with #1 b/c she was SGA. i was induced on my due date. no problems and a vaginal delivery. it took a while, but then again it was my first. i can't say the contractions were stronger or anything (and if they were i wouldn't have known the difference). I wasn't induced with #2, despite my extreme back pain. I stuck it out and was 1 week overdue. My doctor was willing to induce again and 2 more days and I was taking him up on it! I'm glad I waited and went on my own, but was fine with being induced at 41w3d.

I would so not recommend an induction. I was induced twice to get my daughter out! I had my first induction on 5/3, a few days after my due date and I made no progress after 16 hours. I had had enough. Inductions are very long and tiresome for you and DH. DD was still not budging and in order to get a c-section, I had to go in a 2nd time and fail the induction (which I did after another 16 hours). I ended up with an emergency c-section and 41+ weeks.
