BFing and Breast Pump question (recommend breast pump)
So i was thinking....i want to breast feed but if my chance can't breast feed for some reason (my cousins baby could latch on and BF because she was tounge tied) is there pretty much no point to pumping and should just go ahead and formula feed or would you still recommend pumping?? Im just wondering if i should spend the money on a breast pump if there is no point.
If you ladies do recommend breast pumping anyway.....can you recommend your breast pump??

Re: BFing and Breast Pump question
Well in that case, I would still want to pump so that the baby is still getting my breastmilk (albeit through a bottle).
I plan on adding a pump to my registry after my shower. That way I can see how the BFing works out. If I decide I will end up needing the pump, I will purchase it after (and hopefully with a completion discount).

Re: BFing and Breast Pump question (recommend breast pump)
It really depends on how strongly you feel about BFing. Pumping is A LOT of work. You have to pump, then feed DC and spend time cleaning pump parts and bottles. That being said, there are posters who exclusively pumped for various reasons.
I personally hate pumping and don't think I could exclusively pump for a year, which is my goal with BFing. I pump at work, but BF whnever I'm with DS. I'm very happy with the Medela PISA, which is a double electric pump. I'm not sure if there's a better pump for those who exclusively pump, but this is a great one for pump at work.

Re: BFing and Breast Pump question (recommend breast pump)
Hi Taryn:
I started pumping two days ago, and so far I really like it. However, I just started and I'm obviously not working now, so I do not know if I will feel the same way under other circumstances. I have what they call "inverted or flat nipples" which makes it more difficult for baby to latch on. My first baby 12 years ago, I could not breastfeed because of this and the pump I had at the time was not very efficient. With this baby, I was breastfeeding the first few days wit the help of a breast shield, it was working but to me it was very tiring, I am now using the medela pump in style advanced which so far is working for me and my supply is up to par with what I currently need.

Re: BFing and Breast Pump question (recommend breast pump)
I am due in 3 weeks, I plan on BF and don't plan on buying a pump until 2 weeks after being home, to make sure I can BF and no major problems etc. I would just wait.
I will either rent the hospital grade one OR buy the medela in style (double electric) pump.
HTH!
