Your mom is being silly.
Randy and I both have ours. Mine is a certified copy because I demanded my parents give mine to me when I was in my early 20's for something and lord only knows what I did with it. Randy's mother mailed him the original when we applied for our marriage license.
Tell her you'll make her a photo copy.

My mom made the mistake of giving it to me when I moved out after college, needless to say I now have a copy

Just had another thought. Is it REALLY sentimental to them or could it be that they think you will lose it and won't admit that?
ETA- Of course you are a grown woman...I know that, but some parents don't want to accept their child is an adult now.

I have my original. I don't remember when my mom gave it to me. DH has his original also. I think his mom gave it to him before we got married and told him to keep it.

I don't have it and I couldn't tell you where it is  I don't even remember using it to get my marriage license. If you could use your passport I think we used that.

I have no idea where my original is - I think it got lost when my parents split, along with my college degree and who knows what else. I have a certified copy plus all my other important papers now because my parents are in a different country. Jon's mom has his in a baby book and he has been too lazy to get a copy. It was a bit problematic when we went for my green card interview.

mom has the original, she wanted to keep it (cover up for she couldn't find it) - so I ordered one online from the vital statistics.
Used that the new one to get my marriage license and then after I received my marriage certificate, I used it to get my SS and DL updated.
She later "found" the original one in a safe deposit box, and I told her to keep it since I now have a certified one from vital statistics.
