I thinkour society should be a little friendlier to BFing moms (not that anyone ha sdescribed any hostility) but I don't think it belongs at the dinner table. Making out with my Fh is perfectly natural and ehalthy for both of us, non illegal, safe and not hurting anyone, but no one wants to watch us do it while they're eating at a restaraunt, so we save it for later
Because making out is a sexual thing, nursing a baby is not.
no but you can't say a boob isn't a sexual object just because it has the function of feeding.
If so then one can say a penis or vagina aren't sexual...that they are "intended for another purpose as per nature"....

Re: Breast feading in public. The view protest.
I Know you guys are expressing your opinions I jsut want to state what my experience as well. I always thought I would never just breastfeed in public. I though tit was rude. well I was in the mall with my son the older one and he was crying and it was feeding time there was nothing to do but feed him. I had nothing to cover him up and I felt bad. People where staring at me and wondering what was going on that is how bad it was. I finally gave in and sat by the wall angled but that was ll I could do to cover myself up. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do based on your situation at the time even if it offends people.

That's fine - I can totally agree to disagree on this - the bottom line for me is - get over it.

I think she is telling all over us who "don't like it" To get over it... Whatever.....
Kierasmom: Thank you for explaining why somewoman can't pump. I really had no idea. I wasn't saying that people should do it I was asking why people cant do it.
I went to my SIL house and she was pumping cause she was going out and wasn't comfortable doing it in public So I guess thats why I thought people could pump she was and the baby had no problem.

I'm not telling YOU anything. You made a statement "period" and I did the same.
You feel some people will always feel uncomfortable - period...and I say they should get over it.
It's not a solution - there is obviously a divided line on this issue in our society and *IMO* it's unfortunate that people just can't get over themselves - look away if it is so offensive.

Just about everyone anyone does is going to make someone uncomfortable. I think that there are a lot of things that people need to 'get over' but the fact remains, that they'll feel uncomfortable.
Honestly, no, I don't feel comfortable seeing women breast feed, and you telling me to 'get over it' isn't going to change that.
And, being a teacher, I just think of what would happen if I were on a field trip with my class and they saw a woman breast feeding in public. And what would happen if they went home and told their parents.
I do understand that babies get hungry and fussy on their own schedules, but I'm just looking at it from a different view point.

secondly - YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE KIDS - Yet you're up on this soapbox with your big attitude...you need to bring it down a notch!!!

OK - whatever. You are OBVIOUSLY looking to argue - and I'm not feeding into it.

What would happen? The same thing that happened when we all saw National Geographic for the first time? So it opens up a line of communication between child and parent - why is that so bad?
It's not like the (potential scenario) student saw a woman shooting up - she saw a mother feed her child. What needs to be explained???
I really am so perplexed by the attitude that seeing a woman feed her child is something that is dirty and unacceptable.

What digs? I think you read this entire thread - at least I hope so since you were pretty involved in it Why would you take MY OPINION as a dig?
I didn't roll my eyes after it - I didn't bang my head - I winked. It was clearly a simply stated "solution" for an obviously divided topic.
I'm not looking to argue - at all. People are stating their opinions and their views - is it really that difficult to hear other sides?? I'm not trying to change anyone's mind - people, like yourself asked questions (such as pumping, etc - which I, as well as others, answered) - I thought this was just a friendly debate.
ETA: The argument that b/c I'm not yet a mother, therefore my opinion is invalidated, is BS. I've never had an abortion either but that never stopped me from marching for CHOICE or write letters to anti-choice legislators or vote pro-choice.

Because I will be teaching in a very conservative area of virginia.
I could see that many parents would be uncomfortable with a 5 or 6 year old seeing this. And this might lead to complaints.
And I never said it was dirty, I don't think anyone did, you're having fun twisting words around, aren't you?
I just said it makes me uncomfortable, and like it or not, it will make other's feel uncomfortable as well.
For better or for worse, we do live in a society where breasts are seen as sexual object. After growing up in that sort of society, one does not 'get over it' because someone on the other side of a computer screen tells them to do so.
Now, if a young student of mine saw that, it may bring up a conversation that a parent was not ready to have with their child. And that puts them in an uncomfortable situation.
Now, some children may have been previously exposed to seeing an infant breast fed, but others may not have. I don't know what kind of experience you have working in schools, or daycares, but I've recieved and heard of some parent complaints that i would have never thought of.
