I DISAGREE STRONGLY WITH THIS!!! Did you hear about the protest thats going on with the carls Jr. add with Paris hilton or the protest over the L word ad? Or the ad in NJ that was for some kind of beer and people protested it.

Definitely - people protest this all the time......but have you seen any changes? The head honcho's will always be men - or men-centric women - and therefore...women will always be projected in our society as sex objects - "sex sells".

Women's breasts will always be viewed as sexual objects instead of what they were made to do: feed babies.

I guess it's more that I just don't understand WHY people are so uncomfortable about a mother feeding her child.

Maybe women who "whip out their breast" (which I've rarely seen - most women are very discreet) don't see why them feeding their child is so inappropriate when our society sees nothing wrong with half naked women prancing around our TV's or magazine covers or movies.

Half naked women seem to be accepted only when they are exploiting themselves - but not when they are FEEDING THEIR CHILD.

Seems assinine to me.

i've never seen those same people sitting topless at a dinner table in a restaurant though- 2 completely different things. I can choose to change the channel or to not buy the magazine.... Im not going to get up and move my table. Yes, motherhood is a beautiful thing, but i dont need that beauty in my face when im eating my dinner.

I don't understand how a woman could be comfortable with doing that.

I don't think anyone does until they are in the situation.

I would not be bothered, how many public bathrooms would a mother have to stand in? What if she has a toddler as well, should she get up and make the toddler stand in the bathroom to while she feeds the baby? I get more angry when I see kids drinking soda then when I see a mom breast feeding

The beer ad and the L word ads were not the first ads to stir controversy..........point being, change will never be made. IMO.

But this is digressing........sorry.

so if i choose not to have babies, then my breasts are useless Chat Icon i think youre getting a little extreme. I understand that you feel strongly about this topic, but women showing their bare breasts is just not appropriate. There are Always discreet alternatives- people Clearly feel uncomfortable sitting next to a bare breasted women, and i dont think that THEY should have to 'learn to deal' with something that would be unaccepted in any other form. There are alot of things that are 'natural'.... its natural for male dogs to hump peoples legs... does that mean i should just 'Grin and bare it'? No.

as for the women that protested- really, i think they just made themselves look Silly, and did nothing for their argument.

I don't usually get into these threads but I cannot believe how ridiculous you are all being about this - breastfeeding is a natural thing. Granted it should be done discreetly, but saying that a woman should pump - GIVE ME A BREAK!!! You act as if they are having sex in public! It's people like you that make women shy away from breastfeeding because they don't want to be critisized for doing it even though it is the best thing you can do for your baby. I breastfed both my kids and if we are out and they are hungry, I'm going to feed them - wherever I am. You see more skin on women wearing skimpy clothes nowadays than you do on a breastfeeding mother!

ok, I wasnt going to post this, because I got shot down last time this was posted.
I know this is anature of life, but I went to a restuarant and a lady was breastfeeding her child at the table with NO blanket over her breasts.
I felt she should have either covered herself, or go in the bathroom or in the labby to do it.
I DO NOT want to see your breasts while Im eating.
This is MY opinion, so Im sorry if anyone is offended.
Im intitled to my opinion, just as you are.

I agree 100% as well! We went to a Mets game last year and not only was one lady breastfeeding but there were 3! One was covered, others, didnt care where they were!

i agree Chat Icon But hey, we all need a good debate now and then.

i would hope that debating a topic wouldnt make people take things personally- everyone has feelings and Different feelings on something so touchy as this. we should all be able to express those though Chat Icon

Re: Breast feading in public. The view protest.

I try to be understanding of mom's breastfeeding in public, but I wanted to mention this one instance when I looked around at synagogue and there where not one but 3 women breastfeeding during services. One was covered but the other 2 did not try to conceal at all. I know for a fact that there are many places in the synagogue that are comfortable and quiet for them to nurse, and it is hard for me to understand why they did not use those many other rooms, not in a room full of people trying to pray.

I agree with you 100%. It is very easy to cover your breasts with a blanket.

It's super easy - but if the baby is like one of my nieces, it is easier said than done. She doesn't want anything covering her when she is nursing - and if you try to cover her head, she becomes fussy or curious about the covering and won't eat.

I think if a woman has to nurse in public, do it - I have no problem...I don't care if she covers herself or not.

It's b/c of our society and their view of breasts as sexual objects - instead of the utilitarian objects that they are - that the majority of people feel uncomfortable when a woman has to feed her child.

IMO.

I agree with this and all your other posts on this thread.

Huh? Useless? Are you honestly going to argue that women's breasts were not "made" for feeding?? The extra "benefits" are just that - benefits. Chat Icon
