Breast Pump Question for Moms who EP
My insurance covered an Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. I really wanted the Medela Pump in Style but figured since it was free I'd try the Ameda. I just don't know if I'm happy with it and wanted to know if anyone else has used both and can say whether the Medela works better? I have a really good milk supply and I feel like I should be getting more out of a 15 minute pumping session than I am right now. It's kind of frustrating. If the Medela is going to work better I will just buy it since the Ameda was free. Thanks!
ETA: I posted this a while back and I just wanted to bump it to see if anyone had feedback. A month later and I still feel unhappy with the Ameda. I typically get 8-11 oz when I pump in the morning but after that it's very inconsistent. Sometimes I only get 2 oz in a session and sometimes I'll get 5 or so, but I have to pump for 30 minutes. I definitely don't feel like it's emptying my breasts. I've read some reviews online that say people had a greater output with the Medela. I'm willing to buy it but I just don't want it to be a waste.

Re: Breast Pump Question
I haven't used both but am curious how much milk you are getting and how often you pump and also how old is DC?
Everyone's milk supply is different and is specific to your baby's needs. My DD is 6 mos and I pump anywhere from 3-5oz depending on the time of day. Sometimes I worry about how much she is getting but he seems happy, sleeps good and had plenty of peepee and poopy diapers.

Re: Breast Pump Question for Moms who EP
I don't know how much I can help because I never used an Ameda - but I EP and use the Medela Pump in Style Advanced and I think it works great. My daughter was in the NICU so when I spent time there they had Symphonies available to use and I found that my home pump and the hospital Symphony one worked about the same. I also like that you can just by new tubing/parts and so it can be used if you have other kids or given to someone else. For me, that makes the higher cost easier to handle.

I've only ever used the Medela PISA and I had no complaints about it. Like a PP said, if you're worried about the cost you can always use it for the next child (if you have more) or you can sell it.
Or- if you are willing, you can buy a used one on eBay and just buy new parts.

I used the Ameda and I thought it worked great! My supply tanked bc I went back to work and had to cut down. I dont blame it on the pump. It was my schedule. If you are that concerned rent one from the hopsital. They are the most effective!

Random question: Are you relaxed when you pump? This can make a big difference with the amount you get, and since you say it is inconsistent, it makes me think it isn't the pump. (not to say that the pump doesn't make a big difference- if you feel like you are not getting as much as you think you should, it might be worth it to switch)

another medela pump in style user. I pumped for 6 months and as long as I was pumping often enough and staying hydrated I had zero production issues... definitely would recommend this!
