Breastfeeding moms and/or moms of gassy babies...can you recommend your pacifier
I NEVER thought I would have to use one. my mom had 5 kids and never did....but my son has a sucking fetish.
when he just wants to suckle it is HOURS on my breast. I can't put him down for my life.
and plus, he'll need something to suckle when I am at work.
but he's a gassy boy...so I am a little nervous it will make his problem worse.
plus, I don't want him to forget about my boob altogether.
anyway, any reco's would be appreciated.

I rarely use the pacifier...but always keep one on hand(like for the md office when she gets a shot) and right now the one I use is the Soothie...my dd is a farting machine, so I am not really sure if it makes her gas better/worse.

My twins are totally different -- Nicholas never used a paci, while Christopher can't do without one. I don't believe he is any more gassy, though....he likes the Nuk.

DD loves soothies. I thought I would never give her a paci since DS never used one, but I was wrong. My little girl became a thumb sucker within 2 weeks of bringing her home so I had no choice but to give her one. I figure I can take away her paci when she gets older, but I can't take away her thumb

I BF and used Avent clear pacifiers - it was the only one he took and never interfered with BFing. in fact, he still uses it when he sleeps

DD and DS love/d the NUK kind
never had a problem with nipple confusion and didn't make them any more gassy.

At that age he would only take a soothie. Now he will take anything. And he is a champion breastfeeder and the paci never gave him any troubles.

We have used gerber nuk for day 1...
DS had MAJOR MAJOR nipple confusion when we introduced the bottle...
But NEVER had a problem with the binky...

DS loves the Soothie - the one they give in the hospital. No nipple confusion at all. He'll also let me know when he doesn't want it & prefers to self soothe. No problem with gas either.

DD loves her Nuk. She also will take an Avent one, but prefers to the Nuk.
She had no nipple confusion when I was attempting to BF (I had no supply) and latched on fine and went back and forth with the pacifer.
A baby's instinct is to suck - it's soothing to them.

us too, they love the Mam pacis. DD used to like the avent ones when she was younger.

DS will take the Avent sometimes and the Soothie once in a while. He took the Nuk once or twice. He's really much more into the boob though  Good luck, I hope he takes one because being a human paci is quite exhausting!!

same here!
but were they BF from the breast? My son did not like it either but he was bottle fed. I think that a lot of BF babies like the Soothie but a lot of bottle fed babies do not. I would have wanted to use the Soothies because they are easier to clean. The Nuk ones have crevices that get dirty so easily but my son loves his Nuks.

I used these with dd#1 too and she loved them, dd#2 uses them as well but does not bf as she has a high palate...so I think its up to the baby, sadly - you have to just buy a few and try them out...my bf uses the soothies for all her kids, my kids HATED them!

DD uses the Avent 0-3 month pacis; she's formula fed.
For some reason, I associate Soothies with breastfed babies. Maybe they're the most like a real nipple? With my uninformed opinion re breastfeeding, I'd say try the soothie.

DS loves to suck. He used the Soothie pacifier that we got from the hospital for a few months. Then, I switched him to the Nuk pacifier. It took a few days before he really liked the Nuk, but once he did, we got rid of the Soothie. The Nuk was much easier for him to keep in.
ETA: The pacifier has not affected BFing at all.
