BTDT Day care moms of 2...

I have a while to go before my next maternity leave, but when that time comes I'll be unpaid for 3 months so I was trying to talk with my day care now about possibly switching DD to part-time this summer so I can cut costs a little bit.

She wasn't pleased with the idea and so I asked about the kids who are gone for the entire summer and she said they still pay... which I find shocking.

So my question is, what is the practice at your day care? If you kept your DC out of day care for 3 months would you still be expected to pay as if your child attended full time?

I kept DS#1 out of daycare from March - Sept when DS#2 was born and they didnt take one cent from me....you shouldnt have to pay as if he was there

I did have to pay a $150 re-registration fee

EXACTLY the person I was hoping would answer since I know where your kids are! Chat Icon

That's another thought I had - what's to stop me from pulling her out all together and just re-registering. I think the registration fee was $125 at my place - $125 is a far cry from the $1800 I'd have to pay out WITHOUT A FLIPPIN PAY CHECK.

It's to soon to get tough and I don't want to burn any bridges but I'm so annoyed.

Seems like the lady just wants money.

My daycare sends out notices the beginning of the summer to verify enrollment for her "summer school" and again at the beginning of the school year. Lots of parents register for the school year and keep their kids home (w/o paying) during the summer. This way they know they have a spot. Alot of parents also change their days or times depending on their schedule.

Since you are paying for her service. I would tell her what your options and then figure out what works best. It is to her benefit that she knows this info because then she will know what her schedule will be in advance.

No way. You have to pay a new application fee (Chat Icon) but you don't pay for 3 months.

LOTS of kids don't attend our preschool for the summer because there are a lot of competing camps, particularly jewish day camps. So, no, you don't have to pay for "camp" if your child doesn't attend, though if they do, they charge an arm and a leg ($2.5k per month per child) to make up the difference for all the kids who don't attend during the summer Chat Icon

It is where I'd be sending both of them - but only if she works with me. It's a small place on 95th Street... back when I was doing the switch your place didn't have a spot and this one was walking distance from my house... but paying for 3 months when my kid isn't there really is NOT an option.

No way in he!! I would pay for my kid not attending! Tell her that you will then have to pull your DC out and sign up for when you are ready to go back if she won't be flexible.....that's crazy and just plain silly to think you would pay....
