BTDT Moms - potty training

So DD is 18 mths, which i know is very young to think about trying to potty train, but my dilemma is that a good amount of time when she is going to poop she tells us, then goes in her diaper - DH and I are in shock everytime she does is. She doesnt do this when she pees though, which is fine bc she is so young. Did anyone else have this happen? I want to encourage DD to keep doing this, so when she is older we can get her trained. Is it worth it to buy a potty seat and try to put her on it when she says it? or will this just make it confusing for her..sorry for the rambling im just not sure what is the best thing to do.

My son did this at that age too. I think 18 mos is about average for starting with this. I know my 14 mo old does it too a lot and I know that is young but he loves to tell me poop and watch his brother using the bathroom. I have let him sit on the toilet with an insert but nothing but he often takes the insert and tells me poop or peepee and so I let him try. Yesterday he told me peepee so I let him try and nothing and then he walked away and pee'd on my floor - so maybe he did have to go?

I remember with my 1st - he did exactly what you described, we went and bought the small potty seat to introduce the concept to him at 18 mos. He had no issues sitting in it and playing with it and standing on it and dragging it around the house.....but he didn't train until he was close to 3..so I am no help to ya....although around 2.5 he started going on it here and there but I never pushed it at that time since I had a newborn and I wasn't ready.

Re: BTDT Moms - potty training

my dd did that too, 18 months is not too young to start, IMHO

next time she tells you she has to go, put her on the potty. Chat Icon
