BTDT mom's--if you have annoying IL's, how did you deal when in hospital?
I am overdue so I know I can go anytime. My family is in the area, and IL's are about 3hrs away. DH is planning on calling them once we're in the hospital.
Without getting into too many details about IL's, basically they're a PITA because they don't really contribute much to our lives except when it benefits them....and they're rude. MIL is the biggest PITA...and when we go on our few visits to their house, I read a lot so I try to not lose my cool.
Of course, they never visit, rarely call/email etc but now they're trying to getting hyped up since baby is due
Sooooooooooo
How did you keep your cool while in the hospital after you just delivered baby? They are people I don't really want to see but I know I have to suck it up. I told DH he better do crowd control, but its gonna be really hard to suck it up post-labor I'm guessing....how did you deal?

Set strick guidelines. Speak up and don't feel the least bit bad about asking them to leave your hospital room at any time. I wanted to throw knives at my inlaws when they just camped out in my hospital room....they are clueless and would never even think to excuse themselves when a doctor walked in!
Tell them you are tired, you just want to spend time with baby and DH, send them out for food, etc. Its hard because everyone is excited about the new baby, but some people need to be told where their boundaries are, so just be strong and stick to your guns!

That's what I'm secretly hoping....not the drugs part but being overwhelmingly happy that I'll forget/ignore them

That's true for me too. I look back and things annoy me but at the time I wasn't overly bothered by it.

MIL had bronchitus....so I didn't have to deal!!!
I felt badly because neither MIL or FIL could visit me or DS....he was in the NICU a few days & we took no chances with MIL being so sick.
My parents were pretty good.....came during regular hours & left when visiting was over.

Both sides of the family were told they were not to come until called. That's what they did. They came hrs after my csection, once i was settled and DD was coming out of the nursery.

Re: BTDT mom's--if you have annoying IL's, how did you deal when in hospital?
Well my FIL is another story (VERY long) he still hasn't seen DD#1 yet - but my MIL is a real pain. When I had DD#1 she wanted to come to the hospital but refused to get there on her own. The hospital was being strict with the number of people in the room at the time but she wouldn't take the train in or drive, instead she called my parents and told them that they would drive her TO and FROM the hospital and that they would have to sit in the lobby while she visited since there would be too many people in the room. My parents offered to drive her in but they had planned to go out to lunch or dinner in the city - so they offered her money for a taxi to the train station and fare home - but she told them she refused to take the train. Then she wanted DH to leave the hospital and drive to LI to get her and bring her back home - I delivered at Columbia presbyterian btw.
So instead I insisted that she NOT come to the hospital but instead she was welcome to come to our home for dinner or lunch and spend a few hours at our home a day or two after we came home with the baby.
We automatically offered that option again this time - esp b.c my parents couldn't come to the hospital b.c they were watching my DD#1 who unfortunately came down with a virus the day I delivered so she wasn't allowed near me or the baby for a week per our ped.

Re: BTDT mom's--if you have annoying IL's, how did you deal when in hospital?
I wasn't on any drugs but probalby should have been to deal with them. But the stress of everyone being there and being soo annoying sent me into a panic attack and the room started spinning and i was seeing spots so the nurse made everyone leave. honestly, If you don't want to deal with them talk to the nurses about having them come in a limiting the time and number of visitors. That helped me out alot since it wasn't me that was telling them to go it was the nurses
