BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
Sorry to crash, i just wanted to check and see what was realistic to pack in hospital bag. I dont want to over pack but yet want to make sure i have all the essentials. Some of the lists i see makes me think i need a suitcase! TIA

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I can't remember everything I used right now, but I was very happy to have my slippers and my own towels. I had a private room and bathroom, but the towels there were still small and not very "plush." When I could finally shower, I was so happy to use my towels from home. It really made a difference for me.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
If you are having a vaginal delivery, I recommend TIGHT underwear. Some people will tell you loose underwear, but I tell you NO!
You need TIGHT because they give you these HUMONGOUS pads and these ice packs for your episiotomy/ hemheroids.
You need tight underwear to keep them up! I wore loose, and they fell to my ankles when I got up to pee.
Also, thick socks.
Magazines, books.
I wore the hospital gowns cause I was bleeding so much, I didn't want to ruin my own stuff.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I actually wore a t-shirt and yoga pants rather than a night gown or PJ's. It just made me feel more human. I also brought every magazine in the store right before my induction- that was great.
Another thing that really made me feel better was my ipod with the speakers(I had a private room). I made a special playlist for delivery and it really helped.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
Don't forget the chargers for your phones/ipods My DH's are constantly run down. I second the SOCKS, bring a few pairs. And I brought my own pillows for DH and I, the hospital ones are AWFUL.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
own pillow and a boppy
deodorant and toothpaste/brush
hand breast pump (I did this for the second one, since I knew from my first - I was so engorged that it helped to relieve some pressure. I had c/s's so I wan in the hospital when my milk came in)
pad and paper - to write down gifts and who gave them to you.
cell phone/camera

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
i didnt use most of the stuff i packed but its probably because i hardly got out of the bed the whole time i was there, i was in sooooo much pain from my episiotomy that i could barely move. i think the only things i used were my nightgown, toiletres, and my robe once only because i was going to the bathroom and didnt want my roomates husband looking at my huge boobs popping out

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I ended up having a c section - so I dont know if you need tight underwear or not.
I used the big pads the hospital staff gave me. I lived in a loose tee shirt and yoga pants. I wore flip flops in the shower (I didnt have a private room and the shower was down the hall).
Bring thick, comfy socks and slippers.
My friend brought me tons of magazines - Hello, In Touch, US weekly - all the trashy, gossipy stuff that I not so secretly love.
. . . and if you're planning on breastfeeding - DEFINITELY bring the boppy - I never went anywhere without it for the first 4 months.
I didnt wear half the clothes I brought - I just wanted to be in my yoga pants.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
Slippers Robe Going home clothes (bring big ones, you won't magically shrink down--I barely fit in my maternity wear) socks Book Camera Cell Phone
I brought my IPOD, didn't use it. Pajamas, didn't wear them. It was really hot there, and you bleed a lot, so I used the hospital robe. I also used their mesh underwear. Honestly, you don't need much.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I got caught without one for a day due to my emergency csection.
Things i REALLY needed were a HAIRBRUSH (my hair was literally in KNOTS), FLIP FLOPS and a toothbrush. Other items were camera, underwear, comfy pants, makeup, cell phone. That's all I really needed in the end. HTH

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I really used my slippers, makeup, and gaucho pants ((loose fitting)), camera, and snacks for DH and I.. DS coming home outfit. I think thats it?
The hospital provided disposible underwear which were great for me, a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner etc. We brought all of this ourselves as well, but wound up using there stuff

I agree about the undies and don't bring your good stuff - they will get ruined!
I also found very helpful the 2nd time around wearing leggings, helped keep the pads in place too!

I agree with ALL that!! I did bring my own PJ's (all black to avoid ruining anything!!). I brought yoga/lounge pants & shirts!
My boppy since I planned on BF right away.
Cell Phone & charger.

Re: BTDT MOMS: What did you really use from your hospital bag
I barely used anything until I was ready to go home...... I had a c-section and so I was most comfortable in the hospital gowns. The hospital provided shampoo and soap for showering (It was actually really nice). You need your toiletries, a nursing bra if you are breastfeeding, some light reading material and your camera! You also need a change of clothes for when you go home and the largest shoes you have. My feet were 20 times more swollen when I left the hospital than when I entered. You might want a cute nightgown or pajama set to change into for visitors.
I used the hospitals disposable underwear (very comfy and no worries about staining). The nurses also stocked me with a week's worth of everything i needed for myself and baby when i left the hospital
