Can anyone help me with a new nap schedule? (for a 9/10 month old)

I had finally started to get into a routine with naps which seemed to be working...

Sasha was waking up at like 4/5, nursing then going back to sleep til 7ish. So she would go down for a nap at 9, then I would just do something for the day, and put her down again at 2 30 or she'd fall asleep in the stroller on the way home.

Now she is sleeping straight through (the past few days), and waking at 6/630, and ready to go back down and 8/8 30. This means she is waking up from her AM nap at even 9 AM sometimes... and I am at a loss for what to do the rest of the day since that is just so early. On days like this, I am doing 3 naps, but it's throwing me off in terms of what I should do with timing, etc. At 9/10 months-- what's their period of wakefulness, etc.?

Anyone have any suggestions?

yeah, the early wake up wouldn't be a problem if she took longer naps. That's really the problem... Sometimes that AM nap is only 30 to 40 mins-- actually most of the time it's under an hour. I consider myself lucky if I get an hour.

I hope when she really starts crawling she'll be sleeping longer.

Ethan's schedule has been like this more or less since 8 m/o:

Wake up 830am

Go down for a nap bet. 10-1030am
Wake up bet. 1130-noon.

We either play or go run errands until 230-3pm, another nap.

Wake up around 430-5ish.

Sometime he will take a cat nap around 6-7, sometime not.

If he catnaps, he goes to bed around 930-10. If he doesn't catnap, then he goes to bed around 9-930. He STTN.

I don't know often they should nap at this age, but if Ethan goes more than 3 hours between naps, he gets very cranky and overtired.

Before Chloe started crawling she took tiny cat naps and I too was lucky if she slept an hour. Just as she started crawling, she began napping sooo much better. I put her in her crib and she rolls over on her own and goes right to bed.

Chloe still wakes up at 3 or 4 in the morning and then sleeps till around 7. She naps at 9 or 930 for 1 - 2 hours and then naps again at 1230 or 1 for another 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Some days she has actually napped for 3 hours. A 3rd nap is kind of random... sometimes she seems sleepy and I will put her down, other times she goes without and will seem to get sleepy at around 630 instead of 7 (her normal bed time)

As far as wake-times. She still seems to be up for 2 hours and then gets tired.

Emma is 9months & 1 week... she wakes at 6:30/7am. She naps 9:30-11iish and then again 2:30-4pm

Some days if she doesn't nap well in the a.m., we end up doing 3 little naps too.

Can you keep her up later in the morning before her first nap? I think once they get a little older it will be easier to keep them up allittle later. I'd just do what she wants for now.

I'd like to keep her up, so the schedule kinda stays the same-- since it's easy to get out and do stuff during the day-- before I was chained to the house, but she is a crank fest if I try to keep her up... It's new, and it may not last, so I guess we'll see how it goes.

Re: Can anyone help me with a new nap schedule? (for a 9/10 month old)

His sleep schedule is:
6am Wake up
8/830 nap
9/930 wake from Nap
12/1230 Nap
100/130 Wake up
6pm Bed

I have kept this schedule from 6 months and DS will be 9 months in about 2 weeks. I go around his schedule, when I need to do things. Yes, it is sometimes inconvenient, but he is a much happier baby because of it. I always put him down in his crib. He gets better sleep there then if he was to nap in a car or stroller. I read the book "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" It really worked great.

If there is something important happening, I will change it up for the day.

how long are the naps?

i would say something like :

6 - wake up
8 nap

2nd nap should be 2 - 3 hours after waking up

3rd nap - 2 - 3 hours after waking up

some kids need that 3rd nap, others dont. If she takes that nap - then def keep it in your schedule. B/c there will come a time when she stops taking it, you will know!!

Re: Can anyone help me with a new nap schedule? (for a 9/10 month old)

I just finally got my boys on a good napping schedule. They are 9.5 months. They usually wake around 6 or 7. Their first nap is an hour and a half to 2 hours after their wake time. I look for their cues. Their second nap is usually 2 hrs. after they wake up from the first nap. After that nap I finally get out and run errands. They will sometimes fall asleep in the car on out way home or take a short 3rd nap around 3:30. They have dinner at 5:30 and are in bed by 6:30.

I was recently reading somewhere that if you put your baby down when they are overtired that they will wake up after 30-45 min. after their first sleep cycle b/c they won't be able to put themselves back to sleep. I found that to be true after reading that.

Yeah, he does get a little cranky. He could use the third nap, but we usually keep him up. He is okay, until around 5pm and then he starts to get cranky. He used to take a third nap when he was 6 months and then he just stopped. I try to put him down, and even though he is tired, he won't go to sleep. I read some of the sleep Habits book last night and it said by 9 months babies usually get rid of the third nap.
