Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant? ETA one more ?
I'm not yet - but hope to be in the near future.
My two right side wisdom teeth are in. Dentist said I will have to get them out. Is this something I should take care of before getting pregnant? Can I do it while pregnant? Maybe it can wait until after?
ETA: We are now in our 2ww - I should wait to see if I am or not right? In case I am preggo I still wouldn't want to take those drugs this early on. I'm scared to take advil for my headache in case I do get a BFP this time around!

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant?
I think it depends on if they are impacted. If impacted you may need more exstensive work.. like having the gum slit open which you may want to be asleep and can do that pregnant. If its just pulling out you may be able to get away with just novicane.. but note sure if they even do that while pregnant.

I would do it before you get PG. You will more than likely need X-Rays and some kind of anesthesia.

You are also going to want painkillers so I would definitely do it before pregnancy

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant?
I had a tooth pulled and an implant put in during my pregnancy. If I could do it over, I would have taken care of it before I got pregnant.
They can't knock you out when you are pregnant and while the procedure goes quickly to pull out a tooth, its not fun to be awake during. My tooth was in the front, I can only imagine multiple wisdom teeth would be even more uncomfortable. Also they can't use the super strong novicane, so they have to repeatedly give you novicane shots. Then there is the painkillers later - they prescribed vicadin for me, but I refused to take it out of concern for my baby. So I just took tylenol.
In other words, there is limited pain relief for during or after the procedure if you are pg...HTH...

Sux sux sux sux! defiantly make sure your not prego first... they will want to do that panaramic xray that goes around your head to take a complete xray of your mouth.. alot of radiation exposure.
Plus i would take care of before pregnancy.. To be all in pain and have possible m/s.. not a good combo!!!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! I preach so much on this! Get it done now!!!
I had 3 emergency root canals during my PG. Not cool when you can't take pain meds.
Also, they typically want to give you an antibiotic. The list is very limited on what you can take when PG.

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant?
Please do it now.
I am in toochache hell.
I had a major toothache the day I found out I was PG with DS. They told me to hang on since they really prefer not to do it while you are PG, especially in 1st trimester. They will do it if it's an emergency.
Well....DS was born 15 months ago. It was on my to do list.
Then BAM last week, I had a MAJOR toothache again. Same tooth. I could not see the dentist until Monday. I always went to the ER on Friday night. Found a wal-kin clinic on Saturday and had to take antibiotics.
My wisdom tooth is coming out on Friday (the bad one that is hurting). The other one next week.
FYI... if you have teeth problem they will tend to hurt while PG.
Don't delay and do it. I have lived on Motrin for 1 week. It's barely making a dent into the pain.
ETA: I just posponned TTC this month because I knew I HAD TO care of my teeth first.

Make your appointment for after AF is due. If you are PG, then cancel the appt. If you aren't, then you're ready for the appt. Most dentists don't even want to do work in the first trimester, unless absolute emergency.

I wouldn't do any dental work while pregnant, unless it was an absolute dire emergent situation.

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant? ETA one more ?
When I had a toothache I told them there was a possibility I was PG. They did not do x-rays. They waiting for me to find out. They gave me amoxicillin because it's safe for pregnancy.
Wait to find out if you are PG.
The anesthesia is also different. You will need the epinephrine free is you are PG.

It did held up for me until DS was 15 months. But now it's a must. I have to take care of it.
Find out if you are PG first.

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant? ETA one more ?
Schedule it now for after the 2ww, if you are prego they should be understanding about rescheduling it. I actually had scheduled the procedure during the 2ww for a few weeks later. (I didn't think i'd be prego since it took us 4 years to get pg) Well, my dentist was thrilled I was pg and completely understood - however I needed to have the procedure done due to an infection, so he just prescribed some antibiotics (cleared by my OB) and I kept them on hand in case I had a flare up (which I didn't).
Then we waited until my 2nd trimester to do the procedure - which is the safest time to do it during pg.

I say go with your gutt.. if your not comfortable doing something then dont do it. Its your body and best to do what you want. I would schedule the appointment and then if AF doesnt come cancel it. This way if you do get AF you can get the procedure ASAP and go back to TTC!!

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant? ETA one more ?
I would say that it wuld be better to do it beforehand just because of taking pain meds while pregnant, but I did also have one wisdom tooth pulled while pregnant. I was around 7 months, it had a bad cavity but I was waiting until after I had the baby. Then a piece fell off and the root was exposed and it was so painful, so I had to get it removed.
It was partially exposed, partially impacted. They prescribed tylenol 3 for afterwards for pain which I took once on the first night, my OB approved it, but I didn't like taking pain meds while pregnant.

Re: Can you get your wisdom teeth out when you are pregnant? ETA one more ?
I wouldn't do it while pregnant, JMO. You'll need pain killers, and it's up to you, but I'd rather avoid that with a young fetus.
By the way, I would get another opinion. I had one dentist tell me my four impacted wisdom teeth must come out. I went to see an oral surgeon, and he said he didn't recommend it since two had nerves entangeled with them, and they weren't bothering me. If they aren't bothering you or shifting your teeth, you don't have to get them removed. About 10 years later, mine are just fine where they are.
