Car Seat Latches/Anchors vs. Seat Belts to install??

what's the deal with old fashioned using a seatbelt to secure the carseat?? is it a NECESSITY to have the latches/anchors that come in most cars now to secure the seat??

are there laws against seat belts only? any ramifications?

I ask because my husband has a 2011 F350, and of course, this truck doesn't have the latches in the seats to secure a car seat...

trying to find out if this is a major issue, or just an "inconvenience" and that it can still be installed a safe way.

Given that I'm delivering in the dead of winter, this is probably the vehicle we planned on getting me to hospital, and getting us home, I'd hate to not be allowed to leave w/baby cuz they dont approve the car seat installation...

TIA

Check your car seat instruction manual. My car seat can be secured using LATCH or a seat belt. I think all can but don't quote me on that.

I'm surprised your husband's truck doesn't have LATCH. I though all cars made after 2002 had them Chat Icon

You can install the car seat without the latch. The car seat manual should have instructions to install it with the seat belt. But I've helped to install a carseat in one car that didn't have latch and felt like it was harder to get it tight. You might want to make sure you get the seat professionally installed or checked at a Seat Belt Installation check center. Your local hospital might offer one once a month!

thanks so much!! yeah I just read the manual, it says that you can do seatbelt installation, but certain types of seatbelts are not OK to use...so i gotta try to figure out what kind of seatbelts are in my husband's truck LOL

but a seatbelt check would be perfect!!! I'll look into that when the time comes!

I would also take out the truck manual. It may have some information in there about installing a car seat. I know there is a section in my SUV's manual! There will be recommendations in there I am sure!

Re: Car Seat Latches/Anchors vs. Seat Belts to install??

another good suggestion...DH has been all worried that he buys this brand new truck, got the extended cab 4 door (his last one was 2 door no back seats) since we were getting married and going to start a family at some point, and I was like "your truck doesnt have the LATCH system" so he's been upset lol

this will make him feel better and once we look at his manual probably even better :)
